Florida Democrat: Without immigration reform, where will we get our landscapers and maids?

Via the
Free Beacon,
a rare example of a politician articulating the subtext of the
evergreen “jobs Americans won’t do” euphemism. She’s not the only
prominent Democrat to do that lately. A couple of weeks ago, amnesty
shill extraordinaire
Luis Gutierrez
told C-SPAN that America needs immigrants (i.e. illegal immigrants)
because, without them, “who would be working in the fields?” Who, he
wondered, would be doing the “dirty backbreaking filthy work of working
in agriculture” that endless millions of unemployed Americans allegedly
consider beneath them? And it’s not just Democrats: On Twitter, Benjy
Sarlin points out that Haley Barbour is
typically candid
on this point too. The choice, then, as presented by Alex Sink, is
either to let businesses continue to hire the serf class we’ve illegally
imported
or legalize that serf class so that businesses can then
hire them in good conscience. No third option, evidently. Which, again,
is why neither side can be trusted on border security. Once today’s
serfs become tomorrow’s citizens, where do tomorrow’s serfs come from?
There’s a reason we’re negotiating a new amnesty 25-30 years after the
last one.
Sink’s problem is that it sounds at first blush like she’s griping
that she might not be able to find cheap help to clean her home. How
much is she going to have to fork over if we pass on immigration reform
and she’s forced to hire a citizen to scrub her toilet? That’s not what
she’s saying, though; she’s talking about landscapers and maids needed
to staff local hotels, in case that makes you feel better.
Perish the thought
that any politician might have self-interested reasons for supporting
amnesty. Now, if only we can get a Republican to repeat this verbatim,
maybe it’ll gain some outrageous-outrage traction in the media. Any
takers? Haley?
