Pennsylvania Police Chief Proposes ’2nd Amendment Preservation’ Ordinance

Demand a Real Plan: Nullify Unconstitutional Gun Control

The town is small, but the message is clear: do not infringe.

A police chief in Gilberton, Pennsylvania, a small burough in Schuylkill County with a population of only 867 people, is proposing a ’2nd Amendment Preservation’ Ordinance that he plans to present to the city council during its January 24, 2013 meeting.
The ordinance, if adopted, would formally require the city to “enact any and all measures as may be necessary” to prevent the violation of the 2nd Amendment by any federal, state or local entity.
In addition to formally recognizing the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution, which guarantees the right to keep and bear arms, Chief of Police Mark Kessler, who wrote the proposal, also pointed out the additional protection under the Pennsylvania constitution which specifically recognizes the “Right to Bear Arms” under Sections 21.
That section reads, in full, “The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.”
The proposal would further require the local government to nullify “all federal, state or local acts in violation of the 2nd Amendment” and declare them to be invalid within Gilberton Borough limits. The right to nullify unconstitutional laws is granted under the 10th Amendment to Constitution, which further reserves powers not explicitly granted to the (limited) federal government to the states and the people.
Police chief Mark Kessler confirmed an e-mail detailing his proposal by phone, indicating that he didn’t expect the ordinance would “do much” beyond sending a message to those in the media and Washington, yet he stated he felt the need to stand up to those demanding gun control in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting tragedy.
Yet if dozens, hundreds or even thousands of cities and states across the country take similar action, encroachment by unconstitutional laws or policies can be pushed back, or stopped. An attempt to pass draconian gun control laws in the state of Illinois was stalled earlier today after calls flooded in from across the country in opposition.
In 2003, Alex Jones launched an effort to denounce the PATRIOT Act at the local level that was adopted in hundreds of cities. Jones addressed the Austin City Council in the following video:

2nd Amendment Preservation Ordinance
AN Ordinance, which shall be known and may be cited as the “2nd Amendment Preservation Ordinance.”
To prevent federal, State or local infringement on the right to keep and bear Firearms, Firearms accessories or ammunition ; nullifying all federal, state or local acts in violation of the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States along with section 21 “Right to Bear Arms of the Pennsylvania constitution.
THE PEOPLE OF THE BOROUGH OF GILBERTON DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1
The Governing body of the Borough of Gilberton within the state of Pennsylvania finds that:
A. The 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads as follows, “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Along with Section 21 of the constitution of Pennsylvania which states, “Right to Bear Arms.” The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.
B. All federal, state or local acts, laws, orders, rules or regulations regarding firearms, Firearms accessories or ammunition are a violation of the 2nd Amendment along with section 21 of The Pennsylvania Constitution and in violation of this ordinance.
SECTION 2
PROHIBITIONS ON FEDERAL, STATE OR LOCAL INFRINGEMENT OF THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS, FIREARMS ACCESSORIES OR AMMUNITION.
A. The Governing Body of the Borough of Gilberton within the state of Pennsylvania declares that all federal ,state or Local acts, laws, orders, rules, regulations – past, present or future – shall be in violation of the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of Pennsylvania are not authorized by the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of Pennsylvania and violate its true meaning and intent as given by the Founders and Ratifies, and are hereby declared to be invalid within Gilberton Borough and all of its boundaries , shall not be recognized by this Borough or within all of its boundaries within the state of Pennsylvania, are specifically rejected by the Borough of Gilberton and within all of its boundaries within the state of Pennsylvania, and shall be considered null and void and of no effect in the Borough of Gilberton within the state of Pennsylvania.
B. It shall be the duty of the Governing body of Gilberton Borough and within all of its boundaries within the State of Pennsylvania to adopt and enact any and all measures as may be necessary to prevent the enforcement of any federal, state or local acts, laws, orders, rules, or regulations in violation of the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States along with section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution or any violation of this ordinance.
SECTION 3
EFFECTIVE DATE
A. This act takes effect thirty ( 30 ) days upon approval by the Governing body

By openly threatening elected officials and other members of his community with violence, Gilberton, Pennsylvania Police Chief Mark Kessler has violated his oath to protect the public and tarnished the good name of law enforcement.
Kessler has made national headlines by releasing a series of profanity-laced videos in which he fires fully automatic assault weapons and threatens, “If you f***ing maniacs want to turn this into an armed revolt, knock yourselves out.”
This is no idle threat. Kessler is the head of a private militia called the Constitution Security Force (CSF) whose members swear an oath to “respond to the call if…needed to resist tyranny that seeks to destroy our republic.” CSF openly affiliates with the “Three Percent,” an insurrectionist movement founded by former Alabama militia leader Mike Vanderboegh. Kessler openly recruits CSF members at his website ChiefKessler.com.
Given the lack of separation between Kessler’s public personae and his private one, how can any resident of Gilberton (or any visitor to the town) have confidence that he will fairly and equitably perform his duties to protect and serve?
Furthermore, after receiving intense criticism for his videos, Kessler escalated his threats. In a Facebook post on July 23, 2013, he declared:

I will not stand idle while tyrants attack the constitution … If they want to fire the first shot let it begin right here in Schuylkill county … Every militia , every csf member who can attend please do … So come with your flags n your firearms. MOLON LABE … democrats are the true enemy of our country, our freedoms, our constitution, along with liberal news agency’s , liberal news reporters, much like hitlers nazis , time we clean these antiamerican thugs from office.

The Gilberton Borough Council has employed Kessler under contract for over a decade. They have the authority to terminate that contract at any time. So far, they have elected only to suspend him without pay for 30 days. That is not good enough.

Joplin, Missouri's Only Mosque Burns to the Ground; Arson Suspected

On July 4th, Joplin, Missouri's Islamic Center — the city's only mosque — suffered roof damage after an unidentified man set it on fire by tossing a burning object onto the building.

On Monday, the mosque burned again — but this time, the damage was far more extensive.

Fire Chief Bill Dunn of neighboring Carl Junction described it as a "complete loss."

The FBI has dispatched some 50 agents to investigate the fire, which special agent Michael Kaste, head of the Kansas City FBI office, characterized as "suspicious."

Some fifty families are served by the mosque, and the loss of their place of worship during the holy month of Ramadan hit especially hard. "It's unbelievable," said congregant Omar Ahmed. "It's a house of worship. It's a place of God."

The Islamic Center's leader, Imam Lahmuddin, expressed defiance in the face of hardship. "This should not stop us from serving God," he told the Joplin Globe. "We still have to fulfill our obligation."

Lahmuddin said mosque members view the fire as "a test from God."

The FBI and the ATF are offering a $15,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the arsonist who set last month's fire — a reward that will be extended to include the latest incident, should it be considered deliberate.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations is offering its own $10,000 reward for information pertaining to the most recent fire.

WASHINGTON — The United States intercepted electronic communications this week among senior operatives of Al Qaeda, in which the terrorists discussed attacks against American interests in the Middle East and North Africa, American officials said Friday.

The intercepts and a subsequent analysis of them by American intelligence agencies prompted the United States to issue an unusual global travel alert to American citizens on Friday, warning of the potential for terrorist attacks by operatives of Al Qaeda and their associates beginning Sunday through the end of August.

The bulletin to travelers and expatriates, issued by the State Department, came less than a day after the department announced that it was closing nearly two dozen American diplomatic missions in the Middle East and North Africa, including facilities in Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Britain said Friday that it would close its embassy in Yemen on Monday and Tuesday because of “increased security concerns.”

It is unusual for the United States to come across discussions among senior Qaeda operatives about operational planning — through informants, intercepted e-mails or eavesdropping on cellphone calls. So when the high-level intercepts were collected and analyzed this week, senior officials at the C.I.A., State Department and White House immediately seized on their significance. Members of Congress have been provided classified briefings on the matter, officials said Friday.

“This was a lot more than the usual chatter,” said one senior American official who had been briefed on the information but would not provide details. Spokesmen for the State Department and the C.I.A. also declined to comment on the intercepts.

The importance of the intercepts was underscored by a speech that the Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahri, posted on jihadist forums on Tuesday. In his address, Mr. Zawahri called for attacks on American interests in response to its military actions in the Muslim world and American drone strikes in Pakistan and Yemen, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors statements by jihadists.

Security analysts said Friday that in the aftermath of the furor over the Obama administration’s handling of the attack last year on the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, the State Department is now more likely to publicize threat warnings when deemed credible, both to alert the public and to help deter any imminent attacks.

“A decision to close this many embassies and issue a global travel warning for a month suggests the threat is real, advanced and imminent but the intelligence is incomplete on where,” said Bruce Riedel, a former C.I.A. case officer and a Brookings Institution scholar.

The embassy closings come toward the end of the Ramadan holidays and the approaching first anniversary of the terror attack Sept. 11 on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi that killed four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.

“We are particularly concerned about the security situation in the final days of Ramadan and into Eid,” the British Foreign Office said in a statement, referring to the Muslim holy month that ends Wednesday evening.

Obama administration officials publicly declined to discuss what specific information had prompted the increased alarm and alerts, citing a desire to protect classified sources and methods.

But intercepting electronic communications is one the National Security Agency’s main jobs, as the documents leaked by Edward J. Snowden, a former N.S.A. contractor, have only underscored. At the request of intelligence officials, The New York Times withheld some details about the intercepted communications.

Some analysts and Congressional officials suggested Friday that emphasizing a terrorist threat now was a good way to divert attention from the uproar over the N.S.A.’s data-collection programs, and that if it showed the intercepts had uncovered a possible plot, even better.

The bulletin by the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs did not advise against travel to any particular country, but it warned Americans to be particularly mindful of their surroundings, especially in tourist areas, and recommended that they register their travel plans with the State Department.

“Terrorists may elect to use a variety of means and weapons and target both official and private interests,” the bulletin said. “U.S. citizens are reminded of the potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure. Terrorists have targeted and attacked subway and rail systems, as well as aviation and maritime services.”

Representative Ed Royce, a California Republican and the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said Friday that the warning was linked to a Qaeda threat focused on the Middle East and Central Asia.

To date, the only Qaeda affiliate that has shown a desire and ability to attack American facilities overseas is Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, a group based in Yemen.

The Qaeda affiliate announced in July that its second-in-command, Saeed al-Shihri, a former Guantánamo Bay prisoner, had died as a result of injuries sustained in an American missile strike in Yemen last year. But Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri, the group’s seminal bomb maker, remains at large, and, according to American officials, has trained a cadre of skilled protégés ready to take his place should he be killed.

American drones over the past week have carried out three separate strikes in Yemen, according to Long War Journal, a Web site that tracks drone strikes. There have been 15 American drone strikes in Yemen this year, according to the site.

The State Department has issued similar alerts and warnings in the past, American officials said Friday. The last time the department issued a global travel alert was after the death of Osama bin Laden in May 2011.

On Feb. 19 this year, the State Department issued a “caution” notice — less severe than a “warning” or “alert” — to Americans that “current information suggests that Al Qaeda, its affiliated organizations and other terrorist organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks against U.S. interests in multiple regions.”

Pentagon officials said Friday that there had been no movements of troops or other forces in response to the embassy closings.

After the attack in Benghazi, the military’s Africa Command bolstered its quick-reaction forces in Djibouti and created new Marine Corps reaction forces in Morón, Spain, and at the naval air station in Sigonella in Italy that can respond to a crisis within a few hours.

A car dealership has been turned into a massive military base, complete with the kind of machinery better prepared for use in Iraq or Afghanistan than America. With a potential FEMA death camp being discovered in nearby Arizona and FEMA camp delivery trucks being spotted on the roadways in nearby New Mexico, it seems that America is reaching ‘the point of no return’. A stockpile of military vehicles were recently discovered occupying a secluded commercial property on the outskirts of Las Vegas at the address of 5750 Sky Pointe Dr.

It doesn't seem as if the Humvees and other military-grade vehicles are for sale, even though they are stationed at a former car dealership that has been stripped of its business logo and signs.

It would appear as if the equipment is deliberately being hidden from the public on this secluded property surrounded by barbed-wire fences.

The front of the building, which can be seen while driving north on US Highway 95 while departing from Vegas, or from the upscale Painted Desert Mall on the other side of the freeway, is littered with pedestrian vehicles.

1After closer investigation, it was clear that the former United Dodge dealership is some sort of military station, judging from the soldiers on the property all dressed and outfitted in army fatigues. However, there is no clear indication or signage posted certifying that it is a United States military base.

One eighteen-year-old boy named Jonathan who lives in the area proclaimed “The military [has] been there for six months now.” His friends added, “We think it is a secret undercover operation or military base.”

Commenting on the video, Youtube user D Whaley asserted that he was "not surprised by this video at all", it is "happening in all major cities in preparation for martial law".

US police establish 'unconstitutional' checkpoints in Austin, TX

According to eyewitness reports, US police together with the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) establihsed random checkpoints on the road outside Austin-Bergstrom International Airport early Monday morning. The reports come amid other rather scandalous appearances of TSA all over the US. During the past few months such checkpoints encroaching on Americans' constitutional rights emerged at train stations, sporting events, concerts, and even shopping malls.

Not content with treating people like prisoners in the nation’s airports, the TSA is rapidly expanding its operations with random spot checks. This is in full evidence in Austin, Texas, as people travelling to or from Austin airport were treated to random checks at the hands of agents and drug sniffing dogs.

“The security at airports has increased so the bad guys are now traveling on the trains and buses,” said TSA official George Robinson. Of course, no “bad guys” were actually discovered. In fact nothing was discovered, other than a few disgruntled travellers who did not appreciate the government rifling through their bags.

“These facilities are not necessarily protected as well,” Robinson added, noting “We do impromptu visits at locations throughout the country.”

The random checks are labeled as “voluntary”, purely because if they were anything but, they would be unconstitutional, violating the Fourth Amendment, which protects against unreasonable searches.

In May, the TSA was seeking permission from the Office of Management and Budget to conduct “security assessments” on highways as well as at 140 other public transportation hubs, including bus depots and train stations.

Since then, the TSA has expanded outside of airports, and is now in the process of transforming itself into a security force that will have a presence at virtually every major public venue, from sports events, to political functions, to music concerts.

Last year, the TSA was responsible for over 9,000 checkpoints across the United States, a number set to increase thanks to the agency’s bloated budget and its expansion beyond anything vaguely related to transportation.

Since its inception in the US after 9/11, the TSA has grown in size exponentially. The agency was slammed in a recent congressional report for wasting hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on security theater.

One such checkpoint involving TSA agents took place last year in Tennessee, where Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) teams checked trucks at five weigh stations and two bus stations in the state, as well as making trucks pass through x-ray scanners. TSA officials also used the checkpoint to try and recruit truck drivers to become citizen snitches under the First Observer Highway Security Program.

US army helicopters spotted in the skies of Downtown Chicago

Following recent and unannounced training exercises in Florida and Washington state, the US military is conducting a drill in Chicago. The drill comes just after US police together with the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) established largely unconstitutional random checkpointson the road outside Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Earlier this year, Nashua, NH, residents witnessed armored vehicles patrolling the streets of their usually peaceful town and blogger Pamela Rae Schuffert reported getting numerous phone calls from West Virginia, Florida, and Georgia regarding military transport jets landing in numerous cities across the country. What is America preparing for?

The Windy City’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) told the Chicago Tribune on Tuesday it is providing support for “routine military training exercises,” including flying helicopters in the downtown area of the city at night.

However, it seems that the official statement didn't calm down Chicago citizens as plenty of people took to Twitter about what they saw or heard.

Many were claiming that “it’s been an all-night invasion.”

One woman shared her rage onFacebook: “Blackhawk helicopters flying over my condo in the Loop, and all news stations are covering the royal birth, what’s up?”

In July, a similar army exercise was conducted in Port Angeles, Washington, that turned the small city into a simulated war zone and terrorized residents. Frightened citizens flooded the police with phone calls complaining about low flying Chinook helicopters.

Resident Richard Lord said he was concerned about the military's presence over the city and the lack of notification.

“We're all wondering why we're being treated this way,” Lord said.

Cherie Kidd, mayor of the Olympic Peninsula city about 60 miles west of Seattle, added that "no one had any warning about the helicopters, no one said anything afterward, and today city officials had to spend hours just trying to find out what had happened - who had invaded Port Angeles."

School Defends Textbook Calling Muhammad “God’s Messenger”

School officials in Florida are defending a textbook that declares Muhammad as the “Messenger of God” after critics accused an Islamic education group of launching a stealth jihad in American public school classrooms.
The Prentice World History textbook being used in Brevard Public Schools includes a 36-page chapter on Islam but no chapters on Christianity or Judaism.
According to a copy obtained by Fox News, The ninth grade textbook declares that Muhammad is the “Messenger of God” and instructs students that jihad is a duty that Muslims must follow.
“Jihad may be interpreted as a holy war to defend Islam and the Muslim community, much like the Crusades to defend Christianity,” the book states.
The textbook published large passages from the Koran, but failed to include any Scripture from the Bible. And while the book makes declarations about Muhammad being God’s messenger, it does not make declarations about Jesus being God’s son.

Mo. prosecutor drops case against Saudi national

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Charges against a Saudi national accused of paying his roommate to kill a Warrensburg bar owner were dropped Friday after information from a critical witness changed, leaving the state with insufficient evidence to prosecute him.
Ziyad Abid, 24, has been jailed since Sept. 5 on first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges. His case gained national attention when Circuit Judge Michael Wagner refused to release him after the Saudi Arabian government posted $2 million bail.
Johnson County Prosecutor Lynn Stoppy announced Friday morning that she had dismissed the case because, "very recently, our understanding of evidence previously obtained from a critical witness has changed. As a result, the state is currently left without sufficient evidence to support the prosecution at this time."
It was not immediately clear what had changed, and a message seeking details from Stoppy left by The Associated Press was not immediately returned.
Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster, whose office joined the case a month ago as special prosecutor, issued a statement confirming there wasn't enough evidence against Abid.
"First-degree murder is the most serious offense that the State can charge. We have an ethical obligation to dismiss a case once it becomes clear that the evidence presently available to the prosecution is not sufficient to proceed," Koster said.
Abid was arrested after his roommate, Reginald Singletary Jr., told investigators that he killed bar owner Blaine Whitworth in September, and that Abid had paid him to do it. Singletary remains in jail on $1 million bond and has pleaded not guilty.
Defense attorneys had said Singletary was fired as a bouncer at one of Whitworth's bars a week before the shooting, and that Abid had nothing to do with it. Prosecutors offered little evidence against Abid other than Singletary's statements.
"We're thrilled beyond belief," defense attorney Pat Peters said. "It's depressing that a pathological liar can keep an innocent person in jail 11 months, and a circuit judge won't follow the law."
Diane Whitworth, the victim's mother, was clearly upset by the dismissal when reached by phone Friday morning.
"We are disappointed, but other than that there isn't anything else to say," she said.
Circuit Judge Jacqueline Cook set bond for Abid at $2 million in November — along with a number of other conditions — but said she was concerned Abid was a flight risk. She also expressed concerns that Abid would be deported because his student visa had lapsed when he could not attend classes at the University of Central Missouri.
Cook retired and handed the case to Wagner, who also said he was deeply troubled by the possibility that Abid would be deported if released from jail.
Peters said in a motion filed with a state appeals court this week that Singletary had refused to answer questions during a deposition Tuesday.
When he was arrested Sept. 5, Abid was preparing to enter his senior year at Central Missouri, where he was studying aviation and had planned to become a pilot like his father.

(CNSNews.com) - What David Ignatius of The Washington Post describes as a “detailed CIA timeline” of the events that unfolded in Libya on Sept. 11, 2012 (and in the early hours of Sept. 12), confirms that former Navy Seals Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were not killed until seven hours after the State Department informed the White House—in writing--that the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi was under attack and that U.S. Amb. Chris Stevens was in Benghazi where the attack was taking place.
The attack started at 3:40 p.m Washington, D.C. time. The State Department sent the White House an email at 4:05 pm with this subject line: “U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi Under Attack.” The email said Amb. Stevens was in Benghazi.
According to the CIA timeline provided to the Washington Post and other news organizations, Woods and Doherty were killed by mortar fire while on the roof of a CIA facility in Benghazi between 11:15 p.m. and 11:26 p.m. Washington time—or between 5:15 a.m. and 5:26 a.m. Sept. 12 Benghazi time.
Between 4:05 p.m. Washington time, when the State Department emailed the White House that the U.S diplomatic mission in Benghazi was under attack, and 11:15 p.m., when Wood and Doherty were killed, more than seven hours passed.
On Expedia.com, British Airways is currently advertizing a non-stop flight from London to Libya on Nov. 15--via an Airbus A320--that is expected to have a duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes. That means that in the seven hours that elapsed between when the State Department informed the White House that the U.S. mission in Benghazi was under attack and when Woods and Doherty were killed, a common commercial airliner—not a military jet--could have flown from England to Libya and back.
White House National Security Adviser Tom Donilon, according to reporting by CBS News, personally informed President Obama of the ongoing attack in Benghazi before Obama went into a pre-scheduled 5:00 p.m. meeting with Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Vice President Joe Biden.
(On Tuesday, CNSNews.com asked the Defense Department whether this previously scheduled meeting between Obama and Panetta had in fact taken place, whether Panetta was aware at that time of the ongoing attack in Benghazi that the State Department had reported to both the Pentagon and the White House at 4:05 p.m., and whether the president had used that meeting to discuss with Panetta what should be done to defend the Americans in Benghazi. Lt. Col. Todd Breasseale, a department spokesman, told CNSNews.com at that time: “Panetta met with President Obama, as the White House-provided scheduled indicates. However, neither the content nor the subject of discussions between the President and his advisers are appropriate for disclosure.”)
CBS reported that after National Security Adviser Donilon initially notified Obama of the Benghazi attack just before the 5:00 p.m. meeting with Panetta the president was subsequently “updated several times throughout the evening.”
The CIA timeline was provided to some news organizations on Thursday to demonstrate that the administration was getting a bum rap from those who said it reacted too slowly to the 9/11/12 terrorist attack in Libya.
According to the timeline, as published by the Associated Press, a security team left the CIA annex in Benghazi to go to the aid of the nearby consulate less than 25 minutes after the attack started at 9:40 p.m Benghazi time (3:40 p.m. Washington time).
This team included former Navy Seal Tyrone Woods, Ignatius reported in the Washington Post. It rescued some people at the consulate, sending them back to the CIA annex.
By 11:30 p.m. this security team itself left the consulate to return--while being attacked--to the CIA annex. In the meantime, as the Los Angeles Times reported of the timeline, another security team came from Tripoli to Benghazi aboard a chartered airplane.
“[T]he CIA also sent a second six-member team from Tripoli on a chartered plane to help repel the attack," reported the Times. "This team included Glen Doherty, another former SEAL, who was later killed when attackers fired mortar rounds at the CIA Annex."
After making the short flight from Tripoli to Benghazi, however, the CIA security team had a very difficult time trying to get from the Benghazi airport to the CIA annex to which their colleagues had retreated when they left the consulate.
The AP story on the timeline says that the CIA security team from Tripoli arrived at the Benghazi airport at 1:00 a.m., but then could not “find a ride into town."
“Around 1 a.m., a team of additional security personnel from Tripoli lands at the Benghazi airport and attempts to find a ride into town. Upon learning that Stevens is missing and that the situation at the CIA annex has calmed, the team focuses on locating Stevens and obtaining information about the security situation at the hospital,” reported the AP.
“Before dawn, the team at the airport finally manages to secure transportation and armed escort,” said the AP.
At 1:00 a.m. Benghazi time, when the AP says these security reinforcements arrived at the Benghazi airport, it was 7:00 p.m. Washington, D.C. time—or about three hours after the White House had first learned of the attack
David Ignatius at the Washington Post reported that the security reinforcements from Tripoli arrived at the Benghazi airport at 1:15 a.m., but did not leave the airport until 4:30 a.m.
"1:15 a.m.: CIA reinforcements arrive on a 45-minute flight from Tripoli in a plane they’ve hastily chartered," Ignatius wrote. "The Tripoli team includes four GRS [Global Response Staff] security officers, a CIA case officer and two U.S. military personnel on loan to the agency. They don’t leave the Benghazi airport until 4:30 a.m. The delay is caused by negotiations with Libyan authorities over permission to leave the airport; obtaining vehicles; and the need to frame a clear mission plan. The first idea is to go to a Benghazi hospital to recover Stevens, who they rightly suspect is already dead. (Also killed was a State Department communication specialist.) But the hospital is surrounded by the al-Qaeda-linked Ansar al-Sharia militia that mounted the consulate attack."
Between when these CIA security reinforcements landed in Benghazi at about 1:00 a.m. or 1:15 a.m. and when they arrived at the CIA annex, about four hours elapsed, according to the reports. That alone is more than the three and a half hours it takes British Airways to fly an Airbus from London to Libya.
“5:15 a.m. The team arrives at the CIA annex, with Libyan support, just before mortar rounds begin to hit the facility,” says the AP report on the timeline. “Two CIA security officers Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty are killed when they take direct mortar fire while engaging the attackers. The attack lasts only 11 minutes before dissipating.” Doherty had come with the security team from Tripoli.
At 5:15 a.m. Benghazi time it was 11:15 p.m Washington time—seven hours and 10 minutes after the State Department sent its email notifying the White House that the U.S. mission in Benghazi was under attack.
In an interview with KUSA TV in Denver a week ago, President Obama said of the Benghazi attack: “[T]he minute I found out what was happening, I gave three very clear directives. Number one, make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to.”
