Panetta can’t explain why Obama never called back during Benghazi attack [VIDEO]

Panetta can’t explain why Obama never called back during Benghazi attack [VIDEO]

Under questioning from South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta could not explain why President Barack Obama spoke with him only once on Sept. 11, 2012 during the Benghazi terrorist attack, and never called back for any updates for over seven hours.
Here’s the exchange between Graham, Gen. Martin Dempsey and Sec. Panetta at a Senate Committee on Armed Services hearing on Thursday:
SEN. GRAHAM: Your testimony, as I understand it, Secretary Panetta, that you talked to the president of the United States one time.
SEC. PANETTA: I talked to him on Sept. 11 with regards to the fact that we were aware this attack was taking place.
SEN. GRAHAM: One time.
SEC. PANETTA: Right.
SEN. GRAHAM: What time did you tell him that?
SEC. PANETTA: I think that was approximately about 5 o’clock?
GEN. DEMPSEY: Yeah, about 5 o’clock.
SEC. PANETTA: About 5 o’clock.
SEN. GRAHAM: General Dempsey, did you ever talk to the president of the United States at all?
GEN. DEMPSEY: I was with the secretary when — at that same time.
SEN. GRAHAM: Did you talk to the president?
GEN. DEMPSEY: Yes.
SEN. GRAHAM: You talked to him how many times.
GEN. DEMPSEY: The same — one time.
SEN. GRAHAM: How long did the conversation last?
GEN. DEMPSEY: We were there in the office for probably 30 minutes.
SEN. GRAHAM: So you talked to him for 30 minutes, one time, and you never talked to him again, either one of you.
GEN. DEMPSEY: Until afterwards.
SEN. GRAHAM: Until after the attack was over.
GEN. DEMPSEY: That’s right.
SEN. GRAHAM: Thank you.
Were there any AC-130 gunships within a thousand miles of Benghazi, Libya?
GEN. DEMPSEY: No, sir.
SEN. GRAHAM: Were there any AC-130 gunships within 2,000 miles of Benghazi, Libya?
GEN. DEMPSEY: I have to go back and look at a map and figure out the distance.
Later in the hearing, Graham asked Panetta if he thought it was “typical” for a commander in chief to make no follow-up phone calls.
SEN. GRAHAM: Are you surprised that the president of the United States never called you, Secretary Panetta, and say, ‘how’s it going?’
SEC. PANETTA: I — you know, normally in these situations –
SEN. GRAHAM: Did he know the level of threat that –
SEC. PANETTA: Let — well, let me finish the answer. We were deploying the forces. He knew we were deploying the forces. He was being kept updated –
SEN. GRAHAM: Well, I hate to interrupt you, but I got limited time. We didn’t deploy any forces. Did you call him back — wait a minute –
SEC. PANETTA: No, but the event — the event was over by the time we got –
SEN. GRAHAM: Mr. Secretary, you didn’t know how long the attack would last. Did you ever call him and say, Mr. President, it looks like we don’t have anything to get there anytime soon?
SEC. PANETTA: The event was over before we could move any assets.
SEN. GRAHAM: It lasted almost eight hours. And my question to you is during that eight-hour period, did the president show any curiosity about how’s this going, what kind of assets do you have helping these people? Did he ever make that phone call?
SEC. PANETTA: Look, there is no question in my mind that the president of the United States was concerned about American lives and, frankly, all of us were concerned about American lives.
SEN. GRAHAM: With all due respect, I don’t believe that’s a credible statement if he never called and asked you, are we helping these people; what’s happening to them? We have a second round, and we’ll take it up then.
SEC. PANETTA: As a former chief of staff to the president of the United States, the purpose of staff is to be able to get that kind of information, and those staff were working with us.
SEN. GRAHAM: So you think it’s a typical response of the president of the United States to make one phone call, do what you can and never call you back again and ask you, how’s it going, by the way, showing your frustration we don’t have any assets in there to help these people for over seven hours?
SEC. PANETTA: The president is well-informed about what is going on. Make no mistake about it.
SEN. GRAHAM: Well, that is interesting to hear

Gulfport police recently released surveillance video from a school bus that shows the bus driver’s perspective of a beating earlier this month.
In the video from July 9th, the victim is sitting in the second seat of the Pinellas school bus with his head down. The violence starts as soon as he stands-up to get off the bus.
The bus driver, John Moody can be heard yelling for somebody to try to stop them and calls dispatch for help, “I got a fight. I need help in a hurry, I got a fight I need help in a hurry.”
The punches and kicks continue, and the victim falls between the seats. At one point you can hear his screams on the video. The bus driver yells at the attackers, “leave that boy alone,” but doesn’t try to intervene physically.
Then he again calls dispatch to verify the address. “Get somebody out here quick, quick quick they’re about to beat this boy to death. There’s nothing I can do…please send somebody,” said Moody.
According to Pinellas school bus driver policy the driver’s first duty is to call dispatch, and only has to step in if they think it’s safe. They’re not required to intervene.
Gulfport Police Chief Robert Vincent has publicly questioned the driver’s lack of action even after the offending teens had left the bus. “There was time for him to intervene and or check on the welfare of the child in this case. He didn’t make any effort to do so and that’s what we want to bring to the attention of the prosecutor,” said Chief Vincent.
Police investigators turned this video and other evidence to the state attorney’s office. Prosecutors will determine whether to charge the driver with child neglect. Read more via Weasel Zippers...

Selective Service response to FOIA request for information was received by Attorney Orly Taitz.
The response is vague. Even though the Selective Service received a sworn affidavit of Jeffrey Stephan Coffman, former Chief Investigator of the Special Investigations unit of the U.S. Coast Guard, stating that Obama’s selective service registration is a fabricated document, Selective Service administration chose to sidestep the issue of forgery and simply stated that they cannot produce anything in response to FOIA, as they never filed a complaint with any law enforcement agency.
One would expect them to respond whether they did an investigation and what is their conclusion and response in regards to evidence of forgery found by a top governmental official in Obama’s Selective Service Certificate, however they simply stated that they did not file a complaint with law enforcement.  Further responses are expected from the FBI, Department of Treasury, U.S. Congress and 8 different courts. Public will be provided an update.  Read more...

Dear District Attorney Seth R. Williams

Under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq., I am requesting an opportunity to obtain copies of public records. The record in question, is any and all documentation regarding an action in relation to my complaint filed in January 2011 against a court reporter for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Donna Anders.
The complaint relates to falsification of an official court transcript. On December 20, 2010 I appeared in the aforementioned court in front of Judge Eduardo Robreno. In the middle of January I received via e-mail  a court transcript of the hearing where Ms. Anders removed the whole cross examination of  a party Lisa Ostella and neatly arranged the transcript, so it would appear that the cross examination never took place. Ms. Anders removed a whopping 14 pages of the official transcript. When I confronted her, she claimed that it happened due to a scanner malfunction, however when a scanner malfunctions, one would lose a page or two, not consecutive 14 pages. Moreover, one would see that a word or sentence is cut in the middle at the end of the page and the next page is missing. In this instance Mr. Anders positioned the record of the examination  of the next witness in the middle of the page, right after the examination of Plaintiff Ms. Ostella, creating an appearance that the cross examination never took place and she removed all mention of the cross examination out of the index (table of content). Such actions of removing 14 pages from the record by Ms. Anders benefited   plaintiff Lisa Liberi and plaintiff and attorney Philip Berg, as during the cross examination Ms. Ostella stated that allegations  not true, were not made by her, but were created in the office of Attorney Berg, where Ms. Liberi is employed as a paralegal.
After I threatened to file a complaint with the FBI and the Judiciary committee, Mr. Anders mailed me a new transcript, which contained the cross examination in question, which in itself is the proof that the original transcript sent by her was falsified.
Please, see attached both versions of the excerpt of the transcript, showing 14 pages originally removed and later inserted, as well as criminal record of Mr. Liberi, paralegal of Mr. Berg, which includes convictions of Ms. Liberi of forgery of an official seal and offer false/forged instrument to file  and the record of the ruling by the Supreme Court of PA, suspending Mr. Berg’s license for two years.
For two and a half years I did not get any update from your office in regards to my complaint. This is an issue of paramount importance. We  have a court reporter, who was caught falsifying an official transcript/record of the Federal court. If she did it in this case, there is a high probability she did it in other cases and will do it again. No law abiding citizen is safe entering this court room as the record can be falsified and manipulated. If this matter is not prosecuted, this takes away from the public any and all trust in the court system.
Further on, there had to be an investigation, whether Mr. Anders received any incentive, any compensation from other parties for her action of falsification of the original court record/transcript.

I hereby under Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq. request any and all documentation, showing what action was taken by the District Attorneys’ office in this matter.
If there are any fees for searching or copying these records, please inform me if the cost will exceed $_100____.  However, I would also like to request a waiver of all fees in that the disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest and will contribute significantly to the public’s understanding of actions of the District Attorney’s office in cases of falsification of court records. It also helps the public to understand whether there is any integrity and rule of law in the court system and in the law enforcement in the city of Philadelphia.  This information is not being sought for commercial purposes.

The Pennsylvania Right to Know Law requires a response time within five business days.  If access to the records I am requesting will take longer than this amount of time, please contact me with information about when I might expect copies of the requested records.

If you deny any or all of this request, please cite each specific exemption you feel justifies the refusal to release the information and notify me of the appeal procedures available to me under the law.

Thank you for considering my request.

Sincerely,

The skeleton in Obama’s money closet

The skeleton in Obama’s money closet

imageRobert Wolf, CEO of UBS Americas, who has bundled more than $370,850 for Barack Obama so far this year, is one of the most embarrassing skeletons in BO’s money closet, now that the financial institution Wolf heads up in America has been outed in The Nation’s Attack of the Global Pirate Bankers.
“…This crowded docket, combined with the UBS mea culpa, almost distracted us from the sordid details of the Levin Committee’s actual findings,” investigative journalist James S. Henry, wrote in The Nation on Tuesday.
It’s not as if Wolf is just another number in the contribution side of the ledger paying for Obama’s race to the White House.
Among the groupies pushing Obama’s rock star-status, Wolf stands at the front of the line.
Wolf was “wowed” by the Senator from Illinois when he first met in December 2006.  “He handed Obama his card and said, “I’d like to get to know you more.” (John Heilemann, New York Magazine, April 16, 2007).  Obama phoned the next day.  “When we hung up, he said, `I’ll call you after the holidays,’ and I’m thinking, Yeah, right, he’s gonna call me,” Wolf says.  But call Obama did.  The next week they had dinner in Washington, just the two of them, on the night that George W. Bush gave his speech announcing the surge of additional troops into Iraq.  “I felt so honored to be sitting down with him for two hours on an occasion like that,” Wolf recalls, “knowing that he was going off to be interviewed on television later.”

“Within ten days, Obama had announced his intention to run and Clinton was officially in.  A story in the Times reported that Obama had nailed two A-list New York donors: Soros and Wolf.  But though Soros’s backing was a symbolic coup, it’s Wolf who has emerged as Obama’s most copious cash collector in the city so far—hosting two high-dollar cocktail parties, making countless calls, harvesting more than $500,000.

“As Wolf tells me about the soirees he’s hosted, he reaches into a meticulously organized scrapbook, takes out a photograph of him and Obama grinning madly, and tells me that I can keep it.  “The way Barack has taken this nation with his rock-star status,” he says, “it’s very exciting!”

But Obama’s biggest New York groupie was nowhere around in last Thursday’s standing-room only hearing on tax haven banks and tax compliance held by the US Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, chaired by Michigan Senator Carl Levin.

Wolf’s financial institution’s parent company UBS, Switzerland’s largest bank and the world’s largest private wealth manager, with $1.9 trillion in client assets and nearly 84,000 employees in fifty countries, including 32,000 in the United States, was one of two exposed in the results of the Congressional Committee’s six-month investigation.

It was not UBS’s most honorable corporate moment.

“The Statement of Facts in the Birkenfeld criminal case describes additional actions taken by UBS bankers to help U.S. clients manage their Swiss accounts without alerting U.S. authorities.  It states, for example, that UBS bankers advised U.S. clients to withdraw funds from their accounts using Swiss credit cards that “could not be discovered by the United States authorities”, to “destroy all off-shore banking records existing in the United States”; and to “misrepresent the receipt of funds from the Swiss bank account in the United States as loans from the Swiss Bank.”440.  The Statement of facts also discloses that, on one occasion, “at the request of a U.S. client, defendant Birkenfeld purchased diamonds using that U.S. client’s Swiss bank account funds and smuggled the diamonds into the United States in a toothpaste tube,” presumably so that the U.S. client could obtain possession of his Swiss assets without alerting U.S. authorities.441. It also states that Mr. Birkenfeld and his business associate Mario Staggl “accepted bundles of checks from U.S. clients and facilitated the deposit of those checks into accounts at the Swiss bank” and elsewhere, presumably to assist the clients in making transfers to their Swiss accounts, again without alerting U.S. authorities.442.

But wait a minute, didn’t Obama tell AP last April, “We’re proud of the fact that we were able to do this (collecting just $1 million less than rival Hillary Rodham Clinton’s record haul) without any money from federal lobbyists or PACs”?

And does find it mind boggling that Obama was one of three congressional sponsors of the new “bundling disclosure” provision in the Disclosure of Contributions “Bundled” by Lobbyists as a key provision in new Lobbying Disclosure Law to be interpreted and implemented by the Federal Elections Commission (FEC)?

The bundling disclosure provision originated in the Senate as an amendment successfully offered by Senators Barack Obama and Russell Feingold (D-W) to the lobby and ethics reform bill that passed in January 2007.  Senator Feingold described the bundling disclosure provision as “one of the most important provisions” in the lobbying and ethics reform legislation.

“In their Senate floor colloquy, Senators Feingold and Obama made clear that the bundling provision applies to fundraising events:

“Mr. Feingold: With respect specifically to fundraisers hosted or co hosted by lobbyists, my view is that virtually all such events would be covered by this provision.  Is that how the senator from Illinois sees it as well?

Mr. Obama: “Yes, I agree with that view.  At many fundraisers, the host of the event collects the checks and gives them to a representative of the campaign.  So that would be covered because the contributions have been “forwarded” to the campaign.  But at some events, a representative of the campaign, or even the candidate, physically receives the checks directly from contributions as they arrive or leave, and of course, some checks may, be sent in afterward.  In that case, the campaign knows the total amount raised, and knows the lobbyist who hosted the fundraiser is responsible for those contributions.  Even if no formal records are kept about the money raised at the event, although most campaigns do keep such records, the campaign has credited the lobbyist with that fundraising and it must be reported, as long as the threshold amount is met.” (www.democracy21.org).

In his floor statement, Representative Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) urged the FEC in its regulations, “to maximize the disclosure of contributions that have been bundled by lobbyists.  This will bring much needed sunlight to the intersection of bundling and public policy, and hopefully, will serve as a `disinfectant’ to clean up any undue influence brought to bear by the use of third party contributions by lobbyists.” (Cong. Rec. at H9209.)

From Attack of the Global Pirate Bankers, ˆ”In 2001, UBS had signed a formal “qualified intermediary” agreement with the US Treasury.  Under this program, it agreed either to withhold taxes against American clients who had Swiss accounts and owned US stocks, or disclose their identities.  However, when UBS’s American clients refused to go along with these arrangements, the bank just caved in and lied to the U.S. government.  Eventually, it concealed 19,000 such clients, partly by helping to form hundreds of offshore companies.  This cost the US Treasury an estimated $200 million per hear in lost taxes.”

Of the high fliers in the “utterly unprincipled global private banking industry”, Henry concludes: “They wield enormous political influence even without paying taxes, merely by making contributions, threatening to withhold them—or better yet, threatening to abscond with their capital unless certain conditions are met.  In a sense, this is the ultimate libertarian pipe dream: representation without taxation.  But it is a nightmare for the rest of us, and we must design and organize our way around it.”

Meanwhile, the calendar tells us it’s now less than four months to November elections.

The mainstream media owes it to the American public to let in Rep. Van Hollen’s yet to materialize sunshine and disinfectant when it comes to Barak Hussein Obama and his groupie friends.

Barack Obama's Skeleton Closet

Barack Obama started his public career with an unusual move--- writing a book where he talks about using cocaine. It was unconventional, but damned if it didn't just work. After that promising start, though, he has been a scandal dud. Like Ron Paul, a doctor who also had money before he entered Congress, Obama doesn't seem to have made much money from people he passed laws for (especially compared to someone like Rick Santorum). And like Ron Paul, we haven't seen any credible allegations of sexual immorality (especially compared to someone like Newt Gingrich or Bill Clinton.) He has mostly lived up to his motto of "No Drama Obama," to the point of dullness. The biggest scandal since he became president is the loan guarantee -- and loss -- of a half-billion taxpayer dollars to Solyndra, a solar company run by Obama donors that went bankrupt. Less well known but similar is Obama administration pressure on government bureacrats to push through the LightSquared wireless broadband network -- which just happens to be run by Obama donors. In fact, Obama himself was an early investor.
Part of the difficulty in working out this president's scandals is that some of his opponents, including Fox News, have pushed a bunch of scandals that just don't hold up, from the conspiracy theories about Obama's birth certificate -- which have been conclusively debunked -- to the weak attacks against things like political "czars" -- which have been common since the 1970s. Other scandals, such as the Gerald Walpin case, looked very promising when they started but just haven't lived up to their potential (as scandals.)
We could easily be missing something, though. If you have any tips, as always please email us.

Quotes

"It was a mistake to have been engaged with him [Antoin Rezko] at all in this or any other personal business dealing that would allow him, or anyone else, to believe that he had done me a favor" -- Barack Obama

"There's no doubt that this was a mistake on my part. 'Boneheaded' would be accurate. There's no doubt I should have seen some red flags in terms of me purchasing a piece of property from him." - Barack Obama

"I think very highly of Hillary. The more I get to know her, the more I admire her. I think she's one of the most disciplined people I know. She's one of the toughest. She's got an extraordinary intelligence, and she's somebody who's in this stuff for the right reasons. She's passionate about moving the country forward on issues like health care and children." -- Barack Obama

Cocaine

Long before he ever ran for political office, Obama wrote a book about, well, himself, and his amazing his journey from messed up kid to, um, himself. It was quite an epic, considering he was 34 at the time.

In that book, called "Dreams From My Father", he writes that he used marijuana and cocaine ("maybe a little blow".) Oddly enough, he writes that he didn't try heroin because -- wait for it -- he didn't like the pusher who was selling it. (Weren't there any other reasons?) In a later interview, he added "Teenage boys are frequently confused."

But cocaine aside, the press has ignored the one truly outrageous drug scandal that Obama has successfully hid -- he's a SMOKER. That's right, tobacco cigarettes. Obama theoretically gave it up, and claims he never smoked more than 7 or 8 cigarettes a day, but if you dig deeper, he admits he has been bumming cigarettes during the campaign.

Tax Money for Obama Supporters (Solyndra Solar)

George Kaiser was a major "bundler" of campaign contributions for Obama -- he pulled in between $50,000 and $100,000 for Obama's successful presidential campaign, and hosted Obama at his Oklahoma home. The George Kaiser Family Foundation also owned 36.7% of Solyndra, a big manufacturer of solar electrical panels using a new, non-silicon technology. Solyndra was one of the 16 finalists out of 134 companies that applied for federal loan guarantees (which had been approved under President Bush). They spent $1.8 million dollars on lobbying during the application process, and Kaiser has visited Obama's aides 16 times since 2009. On January 9, 2009, two weeks before the Obama administration took office, the credit committee of the Energy Department reviewed the loan guarantee proposal and put it on hold, saying there were issues that needed to be resolved first. Nonetheless, the Obama Administration tentatively planned to give approval anyway during a visit to California by Obama on March 19th. On March 10th, a White House budget analyst wrote that the deal was "not ready for prime time" but they gave conditional approval anyway, with full approval scheduled for September.
MORE warnings -- on August 20, 2009, an Energy Department analyst predicted a cash flow problem for the Fab 2 project (that the loan guarantee covered) would occur by September 2011. Despite all this, Solyndra was the first of the 134 applicants to get approved, on September 2, 2009. Sure enough, in late August 2011, cash flow problems caused the entire company to go bankrupt, and the US government had to pay off the $535 million loan.
Government auditors found that the Obama administration had rushed through the loan package without completing legally required evaluations, and had failed to properly evaluate Solyndra's business plan. The Washington Post newspaper reported that they had pressured regulators to approve it in time for Vice President Joe Biden to announce it at a ground-breaking ceremeony in September 2009, and that politics played a key part in the approval despite repeated warnings.
Federal agents searched Solyndra and the homes of Brian Harrison, the company's CEO, and Chris Gronet, the company's founder, in September 2011, and Harrison resigned a month later, but even then the Obama Administration pushed through a loan restructuring that put federal taxpayers in line behind other creditors -- including the George Kaiser Family Foundation -- despite warnings that it was illegal. By October 6, 2009, Jonathan Silver -- the director of the Department of Energy's loan office -- resigned, and a federal investigation into links between the campaign contributions to Obama and the loan guarantee was under way.

Pressure to Approve the LightSquared Wireless Deal

The Obama Administration pushes a lot of its favorite technologies -- and they sure seem to have Obama campaign donors as investors a lot of the time. Lightsquared is company with 3 satellites (2 since 1995), some L-Band spectrum, and a plan to cover the U.S. with a national, wireless broadband network (in progress) partnering with Sprint, Cricket, Best Buy and other big players. That last plan is controversial because it might interfere with the adjacent GPS spectrum, which could mess up key military functions as well as the ability of anyone under 45 to find directions. LightSquare's investors include Donald Gips, Obama's friend, donor and former White House personnel chief; billionaires Phillip Falcone (a Republican who donated $50,000 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee -- and $80,000 to Republicans -- since 2007) and George Soros (no introduction needed), and -- in 2005 -- Barack Obama himself. However, Obama invested back in 2005, about the time the the plan was first proposed, and he lost $13,000 of his original $90,000 by the time he sold his stock, just 8 months later.
LightSquared's wireless plan received initial government approval on February 25, 2005 under President Bush as a satellite service, but it needed a special waiver in 2010 to operate terrestially only. Despite warnings by Air Force General William Shelton, the head of the Space Command, and Anthony Russo, director of the National Coordination Office for Space-Based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (a government agency), Obama's FCC approved this waiver on January 26, 2011 -- on the condition that LightSquared resolve the concerns of GPS providers.
Shelton, a four-star general, told a closed-door session of Congress that the White House had pressured him to change his comments -- given in advance to the White House for review -- to be more favorable to LightSquared, and both men said the White House asked them to insert a specific sentence, saying that testing of the potential interference could be resolved within 90 days. Both men refused (though neither would publicly say he was inappropriately pressured) and both warned against the LightSquared technology.
In any case, it looks like the proposed system is dead in the water, since the 9 federal agencies involved in testing the LightSquared system sent a letter in January 2012 unanimously agreeing that it interfered with "many GPS systems," even when modified to reduce the impact, and stating that they planned no further tests. Perhaps most disturbing is the finding that the LightSquared system interfered with an air-safety system designed to help airplanes avoid hitting buildlings and mountains. Kind of like when flight attendants tell you to turn off your cell phone, except that it's a real problem.

Firing the Americorps Inspector General (Gerald Walpin)
Barack Obama has been a major supporter of Americorps, the do-gooder organization set up by Bill Clinton, and Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson -- the former National Basketball Association star, and an Obama supporter -- has run a large, Americorps-aided community development project called St. Hope, which includes several charter schools.
In June of 2009, a few months after taking office, Obama abruptly fired Gerald Walpin, an Inspector General for the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), which runs Americorps. Walpin, a Bush appointee, had been investigating St. Hope and referred charges that St. Hope misspent federal funds, had Americorps volunteers running errands for Kevin Johnson, and other violations to the U.S. Attorney. The president is supposed to give Congress 30-days notice of any IG firing, but Walpin got a phone call saying he had one hour to decide to resign or get fired. (He did not resign, and protested loudly.)
Democratic Senator Claire McGaskill, an Obama supporter but also a strong supporter of Inspector General independence, joined Republicans in demanding an explanation. Alan Solomont, the outgoing head of the CNCS, had said that he discussed the Walpin case only with the White House Counsel's office, but there were rumblings that Michelle Obama, a strong supporter of Americorps, was meddling in its affairs, and sure enough, White House logs showed that Solomont had met with Jackie Norris, Michelle's then-chief of staff, the day before Walpin wsa fired -- and five days before Norris would leave Michelle Obama's office to become a senior CNCS adviser. Republicans charged that Norris and Solomont must have discussed Walpin's firing.
Sadly, the more this situation was probed, the less scandalous it appeared. The White House got around the 30-day notice provision by putting Walpin on administrative leave for 30 days before officially firing him, which is sleazy but legal, and they released mounds of documents and emails. It turned out that Walpin is 78 years old and mostly retired, telecommuting part time from his home, and had been confused and incoherent at the May meeting of the board, unable to answer questions. (He said that he was frustrated at being interrupted when he spoke, and "may have had a bug.")
But the real problem was Walpin's behavior on the Johnson case. Walpin is a very partisan Republican, a member of the Federalist Society, and once introduced Mitt Romney to a crowd by saying that Mitt was from Massachusetts, which is run by a "modern-day KKK -- the Kennedy Kerry Klan." Walpin's pursuit of Kevin Johnson was similarly partisan and sloppy. He never did an audit to pin down how much money had been misspent -- he just alleged that all of it was. He announced his findings publicly and proclaimed Johnson guilty in the middle of Johnson's mayoral race, but the Republican local US Attorney that Walpin referred the case to found no criminal wrongdoing. (The AG settled with St. Hope, forcing them to pay back half the money. Kevin Johnson personally paid back about $72,000.)
Walpin even took the unusual step of recommending that Kevin Johnson be barred from receiving any federal money, which -- as Walpin knew -- may have prevented the City of Sacramento from receiving any federal funds, once Johnson was elected. (The AG ended that ban with teh settlement.)
In fact, local US Attorney Lawrence Brown filed a formal complaint against Walpin for unethical and sloppy work with the board that hears complaints against government watchdogs. Walpin withheld evidence that exculpated Johnson from his charges, for example, and failed to conduct an audit.
Walpin made as much hay as he could off of this scandal, suing the federal government and touring conservative talk shows (with help from the PR firm behind the Swift Boat ads against John Kerry). He lost his suit in District Court, appealed, and was unanimously rejected by a 3-judge panel (2 of whom were Republican appointees.)
There's one final, odd twist to this story. Remember Michelle Rhee, the brash, young, conservative, Harvard-educated Korean woman who was chancellor of the Washington DC school system for a couple of tumultuous years, until she angered too many people with her mass firings and school closures? She was more than once accused of racism for her efforts to reform the largely-Black DC school district. In September, 2011, she married Kevin Johnson.

The Iowa Fakeout

Zachary Edwards, a former Obama internet organizer more recently working for Link Strategies, a Democratic opposition research outfit, was arrested on January 20, 2012 for identity theft.
The details indicate that this could be much more significant than that simple description sounds. Edwards is charged with impersonating Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz -- or, confusingly, his brother Thomas Schultz -- on June 24, 2011 -- "in an alleged scheme to falsely implicate Secretary Schultz in perceived illegal or unethical behavior while in office," according to the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
Both parties realized the power of secretaries of state in 2000, when Katharine Harris -- Bush's Florida campaign co-chair and Florida's Secretary of State -- played a key role in delivering that state's electoral votes -- and the presidential election -- to Bush. More recently, secretaries of state have been at the center of the controversy over alleged (but rarely proven) vote fraud and restrictions on voting to fight it. So taking out a swing-state secretary of state, early in a presidential election year, could have a huge impact.
So far, there is no direct link to the Obama campaign, but Edwards worked on Obama's 2008 campaign, and Link Strategies is run by Jeff Link, himself a media consultant for Obama in 2008. Link Strategies fired Edwards hours after his arrest, and denied any involvement. It's not clear exactly what happened, but a good guess is that Edwards hacked into Schultz' email account looking for dirt.
There is a liberal blog in Iowa called "Under The Golden Dome" (UTGD). On June 24th -- the same day Edwards is alleged to have committed his crime -- UTGD began a series of 3 blog posts criticizing Matt Schultz for attacking Jon Huntsman on official Iowa state stationery. UTGD charged Schultz with illegally using state resources for partisan reasons and alleged that the Santorum campaign was behind Schultz' statement. It helps to know that Schultz' brother Thomas was the leader of the Draft Rick Santorum campaign in Iowa.
In June, the Iowa Democratic Party had filed an ethics complaint with the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board about Schultz' letter. The agency dismissed the complaint on the grounds that Schultz had not violated the law.
UTGD printed several emails from Schultz' office. Where did they get them? Joe Quimby of UTGD wrote "A helpful tipster has provided Under the Golden Dome with documents from an open records request to Iowa’s Secretary of State Matt Schultz’s office that contain some very troubling internal emails." He did not identify the helpful tipster. You would think that the results of an open records request would be public information, by definition really. Then again, you would also think that you couldn't fool Schultz' office by pretending the emails were from an open records request to Schultz' own office; Schultz would kind of have to know about it, right? The official press release said that the case started with a report from the Secretary of State's office on June 24th, so maybe they didn't fool them.
It's not clear why the official Iowa release called it an attempt to "falsely implicate" Schultz. You'd think a hacker would look for whatever they could find. If they were sending out fake emails from the account that sounded bad, that would be an attempt to falsely implicate. But at this point, we really just don't know.

Tony Rezko & the Shady Land Deal

Barack Obama has been friends with Antoin ("Tony") Rezko since at least 1990. Barack interviewed with Rezko for a job in the early 1990s (Rezko offered the job, but Obama turned it down), and Rezko has raised at least $150,000 for Obama's campaigns. Prosecutors charge that at least $10,000 of the money Rezko gave Obama was extorted in return for political favors by a different politician. In return, Barack arranged an internship in 2005 for John Aramanda, the son of a Rezko business associate (Joseph Aramanda, who himself gave Barack $11,500.)

There's more. In June, 2005, Obama bought a house in Chicago for $1.65 million ($300,000 below the asking price). The same day, Rezko bought (in his wife's name) the vacant lot next door for $625,000, the full price asked. Seven months later, Rezko sold Barack a slice (1/6th) of his lot so the Obamas could have a bigger yard. There's no evidence that Rezko bought the vacant land for any other reason than to do Obama a favor. The seller would only sell the house if he could sell the lot on the same day. And the lot is only accessible through Obama's yard. Rezko and his wife sold the lot last year to someone they owed money to, and let that person keep the small profit he made.

Here's the real problem: among other problems, Rezko was convicted in a federal government corruption case for demanding kickbacks from companies wanting to do business with Illinois Governor Blagojevich, another politician that Rezko has befriended and donated to. (Rezko is also under indictment for shaking down a Hollywood producer for $1.5 million in campaign contributions for Blagojevich. The guy takes care of his political friends.) In fact, Joseph Aramanda is an unindicted co-conspirator in one of the kickback cases.

Obama has admitted that the land deal was a mistake, and donated money donated directly by Rezko to charity. His story has changed, though. When the land deal was first reported, Obama said his only contact with Rezko was asking him if it was a good deal. In February 2008, though, one of Obama's staffers admitted that the candidate walked around the house and lot with Rezko. Rezko has said he bought the lot to help the Obamas expand their backyard.

Hanging Out with Radical 60s Bomber

Bill Ayers, the son of a rich utility executive, calls himself a "small-C communist." In 1969, he and his wife Bernadette Dohrn helped found the Weathermen (aka the Weather Underground), a radical group that bombed several buildings, killing a police officer and three of their own members. In 1981, an armed robbery of a Brinks truck by Weather Underground members killed two police and a security guard.

By then Ayers and Dohrn has morphed into reasonably respectable professors in Chicago, and weren't involved. But Ayers has no regrets; in 2001 he even wrote "I don't regret settings bombs. I feel we didn't do enough." Ayers and Dohrn were never convicted because of illegal wiretaps and other prosecutorial misconduct that got their charges thrown out.

Great scandal, huh? Only problem is that Ayers' links to Obama are not that clear. They live 3 blocks apart in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, and their kids go to the same school. In 1995, they were both on the board of a charity founded by Walter Annenberg, the billionaire founder of Reader's Digest (not exactly a liberal - he was Nixon's ambassador to Britain). From 2000 to 2002 they were on another board together (the Woods Foundation). Obama praised one of Ayers' many books, in a 1997 newspaper interview. Ayers donated $200 to Obama's 2001 campaign. The biggest link was in 1995, when Ayers and Dohrn hosted a coffee fundraiser, at which State Senator Alice Palmer introduced Obama as her chosen successor as state senator. Obama certainly had no problem with that hosting, though since then he has criticized Ayers' crimes many times as "detestable".

The big question is, does this indicate that Obama is a secret radical? I haven't seen any solid evidence beyond this. But I'm all ears -- email me.

Muslim? Educated in Madrassa? Won 't Salute the Flag? Fox News ran a story claiming that Obama had been educated in a madrassa school in Indonesia. If you're not familiar with that term, it's a type of fundamentalist Muslim school, often funded by the extremist Wahabi sect of Islam (with Saudi money) and often very anti-American.

There was only one problem with the story: it was completely false. Yes, Obama had gone to school in Indonesia as a kid; two schools in fact. One was Catholic, the other was a public school, with teachers and kids of various faiths.

The only scandal here is that Fox News ran the story with no facts or reporting backing it up. They simply repeated a story from a highly partisan website, with no effort to check out the school. It's there, still open, and easily visited. Reporters who did so found out that the story was false in minutes.

There have been several other stories about Obama floating around in emails -- that he has no birth certificate, was born in Kenya, refuses to put his hand over his heart when saying the pledge of allegiance, that he is secretly Muslim, etc. We print REAL scandals, not fake ones. If you want the facts on these lies, a great source is www.snopes.com.

ONLY IN OBAMA NATION DO THE RETARDS VOTE FOR THE RULER OF THEY NATION IS A JAUKIE DRUG DEALER

Obama's Cocaine Confessional Won't 'Blow' His Chances

At the moment, Republican strategists and Clinton loyalists share a common dream, an identical yearning and an increasingly forlorn hope: wishing with prayerful fervor for some revelation or scandal or personal weakness that will block Barack Obama's candidacy for president.
In that context, The Washington Post raises the pre-emptive question of the senator's direct confession (in his intimate memoir, "Dreams of My Father") that he used cocaine and marijuana in high school and college.
Much to the disappointment of his rivals in both parties, these disclosures stand no chance of derailing his potential campaign and may end up adding to Obama's unconventional appeal.
First of all, Obama is hardly the first prominent politician to acknowledge youthful indiscretions involving illegal drugs. Fourteen years ago, Bill Clinton easily survived his discussions of smoking marijuana, and drew far more criticism for his dodgy, weasel-words regarding his experience ("I smoked, but I didn't inhale") than for his one-time exposure to the demon weed.
Al Gore also admitted to dope indulgence (and reportedly became a heavy user at Harvard, which may help explain the spectacularly weird workings of his mind) as did Newt Gingrich and John Kerry. George W. Bush refused to share specifics of his own drug experience beyond a general acknowledgment of a rowdy youth ("when I was young and stupid, I was young and stupid"). Still, he did little to contradict ubiquitous reports of his consumption of booze, marijuana and even cocaine.
If the American people managed to elect (twice) a stonewalling, wealthy frat boy from a spectacularly privileged family despite his reported involvement with illegal substances, they will readily forgive (and even embrace) a mixed-race kid from a troubled background whose father abandoned him in his infancy and who wrote candidly, long before his presidential campaign, of his regrettable participation in the drug culture.
Obama suggests in his books that he used marijuana and "blow" to ease the pain of his ongoing struggle to define his racial identity, and that association makes it all but unthinkable that even the most ruthless political operative would attempt to make an issue of long-ago substance abuse.
Michael Medved, best-selling author of "Right Turns" and "The Shadow Presidents," hosts a syndicated daily radio talk show focusing on the intersection of politics and pop culture. He blogs at http://michaelmedved.townhall.com/
In fact, Obama's pre-campaign confessions only add to the seductive sense that there's something fresh and unprecedented about his candidacy. He's not only the first serious candidate of color and 10 years younger than any of his prominent rivals. He's also the first presidential possibility in memory who admitted to his drug involvement long before he embarked on a national campaign.
So far, everything about the 2008 race suggests that the American people powerfully crave new and different above more of the same -- and that's wonderful news for Obama and a serious obstacle for the likes of Hillary Clinton, John McCain, John Kerry, John Edwards and even Al Gore. This election may represent the first time in recent history that a prior run for president or vice president doesn't constitute a formidable advantage.
In that sense, Obama's drug confessions only add to the sense that he's a radically different sort of candidate -- and it's hard to see how the confessions will work against him.

t this point, the senator's potential opponents in both parties need to find a way to make him look less daring and distinctive and refreshing. Republicans in particular should emphasize the senator's conventionally liberal voting record and policy positions that echo the tired old lefty nostrums of Ted Kennedy.
His pose as a "new kind of politician" has far more to do with his transracial identity and persuasive rhetorical style than it does with his political platform. With Hillary apparently determined to burnish her own centrist credentials, she will need to focus her campaign on demonstrating to primary voters and the public at large that Obama doesn't qualify as a real "New Democrat" in any sense of the term.

OH HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE JUNKIE IN THE WHITE HOUSE

When did Obama stop taking drugs?

Autobiography admits use of pot, cocaine, his temptation by heroin

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama admitted using drugs in his autobiography but never revealed if or when he stopped, points out an explosive new book on the Democratic presidential candidate written by the co-author of 2004′s “Unfit for Command,” the Swift Boat exposé that impacted John Kerry’s campaign for the White House.
“I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years,” Obama wrote in “Dreams From My Father,” in a section of the book about his college days. “Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it.”

In “The Obama Nation,” a new book by Jerome Corsi, a WND staff writer, the author speculates about why Obama disclosed his drug use.
“Why Obama chose to disclose he smoked marijuana and used cocaine at all remains a mystery,” Corsi writes. “Perhaps Obama felt the information would eventually come forward from his school buddies. So, to minimize the damage from this concealed fact, Obama possibly judged self-disclosure was the best route.”
Obama wrote that he stopped short of shooting heroin when it was offered to him by a friend.
“I’d looked at him standing there, surrounded by big slabs of salami and roast beef, and right then an image popped into my head of an air bubble, shiny and round like a pearl, rolling quietly through a vein and stopping my heart. …”
Corsi points out Obama has yet to explain whether he ever sold drugs or when he stopped using them.
“Did Obama ever use drugs in his days as a community organizer in Chicago, or when he was a state senator from Illinois?” Corsi asks. “How about in the U.S. Senate? If Obama quit using drugs, the public inquiry certain to occur in a general election campaign for the presidency will most certainly aim at the when, how and why questions George W. Bush successfully avoided.”
Obama linked drug use in his college years with his struggle for identity and specifically with issues of race.
“Junkie. Pothead. That’s where I’d been headed: the final fatale role of the young would-be black man,” he wrote.
Corsi continues: “He denies the ‘highs’ had been about “me trying to prove what a down brother I was. … I got high for just the opposite effect, something that could flatten out the landscape of my heart, blur the edges of my memory.”
Despite the seriousness of the revelation by Obama about his college drug use as late as the 1980s, there has been little attention given the issue by the political reporters who cover the candidate. In fact, none have asked the questions Corsi asks in his book – or, at least they have not published or broadcast answers if the questions were asked.
Last year, when a Minnesota man, Larry Sinclair, made startling allegations that he used cocaine and had homosexual sex with Obama nine years earlier, the candidate was able to ignore the charges. Subsequently, Sinclair reportedly failed polygraphs.
