  2. I find her findings racist and small minded. If one takes the blue colar white or even more uneducated, the white trash and compare them to educated whites one will find the same change and differences. So of course she found that education and not the white community will change anyone who continues to learn from those who don’t become educated! Duh! So I find her thesis as not very bright and she should go back to school and continue to learn.

I know I am a bit late on this however, as I read Michelle Obama’s “Mumbo-jumbo” thesis, I had thought the exact same as you. Individuals with more in common with one another, will be attracted to one another. Isn’t that her whole thesis?
It’s my understanding Michelle had a full scholarship to both Princeton and Harvard. I am high school educated man. Is this the best she could come up with?
Let’s see, 1) If you are a women, who conceived a child; studies show*: you will spend more time with other women who conceived and not single women.
      2) If you are a man who is an avid golfer, studies show*; you’ll spend more time with other avid golfers and not softball players.
      3) If you are _____________, studies show*, you’ll spend more time with ____________ and not _____________.
studies show*; to mean my own observations.
I am sending this to Princeton and see if they will give me an “Honorary Degree”.

  4. What I know about the candidates has me a commmitted McCain/Palin supporter. None the less, Michelle Obama’s thesis shows a woman trying to understand the role of race in her life. She did not come across as racist & small minded.
Her thesis definetly has an affinity for keeping the status quo, black racism, alive. She comes across as preferring to see black segregationism instead of American integration.
But that perceived preference is muted by the general tone to the thesis which is: what happens when blacks enter an integrated social setting. That is not an outrageous question to ask.
The results seem to say that integration is the normal result.

    • Originally, blacks (in power) encouraged integration with whites.
Michelle has pushed her race back 40 years plus with her remarks. In addition, the topic of her study is so trite, that it is amazing that tax payer dollars paid for this trash! What do you expect when Chicago politics mix with Princeton liberal thought?

Racism comes in all colors. I surely don’t want this taken into the White House.
As a Democrat, the choice for me would have been Hillary Rodham Clinton, but now I will vote for John McCain. A man of honor, to all Americans and our Country.

  6. She keeps using the words predominantly white. Well African Americans are a minority correct? So unless you are in an all black college, it’s a given that the college is predominantly white. If she spent more time helping people and less time worrying about color and status, she could accomplish a lot more. We can learn from the past but it’s foolish to dwell.

Why do you want to help the poor black people so much more than the poor white people. Why not just give all your money to the very poor?

  12. It is very clear that this issue weighed heavily on her mind. I am also sure that it was always at the forefront of her husband’s mind. What strikes me funny is that her husband Barack, is half white. That fact was not nearly promoted enough during the entire campaign. It is obvious which group the Obamas identify the most with. It also obvious which one of Barack’s backgrounds was leveraged to his advantage throughout this race. Saying this, whether I agree with his political views or not, I am glad that he one the race as a glass ceiling has now been shattered! His accomplishment should remove this contrast in the future as it is an advantage that can no longer be leveraged!

  13. What about the Arab part of Obama’s gene pool? He is only a little more than 6 percent Black. The whole black issue is one of a welfare state pushed on blacks throughout generations and also one of well educated blacks like Michelle who live with a big chip on her shoulder. There are more reasons for so many black babies without fathers and for a high percentage of black men in prison. When most babies born to blacks are to unwed mothers, it is not the fault of white, blue eyed citizens. When black men are in prison, it is not because they are profiled, it is because they are caught. Get real people. Get an education. Use a condom if not married. Get a job. Get off drugs. Be responsible.

  14. I think everyone is forgetting that this Thesis is from 1985. How old was this college student in 1985? 21 years of age.
I would like to address angrynana. “The whole black issue….” The whole black issue is white people (yes, I said it white people). White people are always spouting forget the past, moved on. BE RESPONSIBLE! Well, when are you going to be reponsible for your actions, what you have done.
Less, than 50 years ago Eugene “Bull” Connor, used high-pressure water jets and police dogs to control black protestors. Who is going to be responsible for that? Who is going to be responsible for the lack of educational equality for minorities. When the tides change and whites are the poor minorities, what then?
So, do you think only blacks are in jail, pregnant and on drugs. You don’t know any whites on drugs, uneducated and in jail (some for blowing up schools, or shooting them up). Even, though studies and the news predict Blacks tragic downfall as part of this country…if you look thru eyes wide open you will see that Blacks have made great strides inspite of the torture they have endured. Please, recognize that the African American race is a phenomenal race and a compliment to this country.
Just like YOUR President. Again, Michelle Obama was 21 in 1985 when she attended Princeton.

    • Gee, jjacki3 – Did uou mean Eugene “Bull” Conner, the DEMOCRAT? Funny how when you leftists point to America’s “racist” past, you always neglect to mention that it was YOUR party who was engaged in most of the racism and continues to fan the flames today. The whole race issue is Democrats (yes, I said it – Democrats). It was Democrats who started a civil war to keep black people enslaved. It was Democrats who established the KKK to keep blacks in fear. After Republicans adopted constitutional amendments to guarantee black rights, it was Democrats who passed jim crow laws to keep them from voting. It was Democrats such as KKK member and Senator Robert Byrd who attempted to filibuster the Civil Rights Act of 1964. After losing that battle, Democrats switched gears and enslaved blacks by handing them welfare crumbs to buy their vote. Democrats have been peddling soft racism for years by telling minorities that they are too inept to make it on their own. They need government assistance, because they are too stupid, or too lazy, or too weak to overcome the same adversities facing ordinary middle class Americans. Democrats continue to support racist organizations such as ACORN, which keeps blacks enslaved to drugs by paying voter registration personnel with crack cocaine. There is no level to which Demcrats will not sink in order to keep the black vote at the end of a short leash. It is not America who needs to apologise for the past. It is not whites who need to apologise for the past. It is not Republicans who need to apologise for the past. It is overwhelmingly DEMOCRATS who need to apologise for the past. Stop trying to drag the rest of us into the bed that you made. Our sins are buried at Arlington while yours continue to multiply and decay what little soul you have left.

The english stole their land. America was theirs so really none of us have a right to say anything unless you are in fact a native american or indian or whatever name you wanna come up with. So really if you wanna get down to it none of us deserve America or anything else. We have all just kept on and on worrying about things that are not important we have forgotten what is important.

  17. Judge a person by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin…or has she forgotten Martin Luther King’s civil rights credo? Michelle is a racist, most obviously. Her comment during the campaign…”For the first time in my life, I am proud to be an American” is a sad testimony from a woman who lives in, what was and hopefully will be again, the greatest country in the world. She is biting the hand that feeds her with the help of 26 assistants to wait on her in the White House.

  20. Judge a person by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin. “For the first time in my adult life, I am proud to be an American”. Michelle’s thesis is truly an eye opener. I and many other Americans have had a ‘gut feel’ about Barack & Michelle Obama, and this thesis gives a look into her thinking, attitudes and character. Watching them now, with Barack out on the golf course, the family vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard and Michelle in Spain with 40 of her closest friends and arguably hundreds in her entourage, what do they think and feel now about their ‘blackness’ or in the case of Barack, his multi-racial background? They do not appear to be as concerned for the black, white, or brown poor, or any of the millions of jobless, homeless, struggling small business owners, black, white, yellow, brown, or grey (seniors). They’re too busy ‘experiencing’ the power, control, and privilege afforded them by Barack being elected on a flimsy slogan of “Hope and Change”. America is struggling to keep it’s collective head above water, folks, so how’s that ‘Hopey, Changey thang’ working for you now? My hope and prayer (yes, I have a Savior, and it’s not Barack), is that America will still be able to redeem the principles by and for which this country was founded on, historical revisionists be damned. And let’s get past the whole slavery issue; I’m part Native American Indian, and the atrocities upon that race are still evident – have you seen a typical Native American Indian reservation lately? Talk about slum lords. Alcoholism, domestic violence…sad but true. Black Americans are not the only ‘victims’ in this world – it’s a fallen world, and evil does exist. Let’s get past the ‘victimization’ and work for the common good of America, and it starts with me. Take care and God Bless.

  21. et’s not forget about the “whole slavery thing”. Let us remember it and grow and strengthen ourselves from our history. Nobody ever tells the Jews to forget the Holocaust, and they have used that as a Battle Cry for the group…”Never Again”. African Americans are not only asked to forget Slavery, to forget The Civil Rights Era, “We Shall Overcome”. Well we haven’t overcame yet. African Americans are the most poorly educated in America, comprise the largest percentage of prison inmates, and hell, we just ain’t doing that damn good! We need to remember, we need to relish in our strengths and our survival, we need the unity that other groups of minorities have, we need to Overcome!

  23. The nasty race card has been played faithfully, continuously, repeatedly in the White House since George Washington sat in Office in his powdered wig, all the way up until now when Obama made history in being the first Black president of this country.
And that just royally p/sses people off. So the backlash has been and is tremendously venomous and absolutely senseless.
There is nothing wrong with this paper by Michelle Obama. There is nothing wrong or shameful for a person to choose to study his/her own culture and heritage within a nation of diverse cultures.
The attitudes towards people of color in this country, such as the blacks and Native Americans, is shameful. On the one hand if black people or the natives try to rise up above the oppression, the whites get all bent out of shape just like they are doing right now towards the Obamas… Yet if these oppressed races don’t try to rise up, evolve, make changes they’re condemned and looked down upon by races who believe themselves to be more superior, which is usually the white race, and they’re treated with disdain.
It’s like Peoples of Color are da/mned if they do and they’re da/mned if they don’t. It’s pitiful really because the one thing that will always keep a nation divided is racial prejudice amongst the people.
    Comment by Jilla Lamar — January 13, 2012 @ 8:44 pm | Reply
    • It’s not only Peoples of Color who are da/mned if they do and da/mned if they don’t. Give a help hand and be a accused of trying to impose our own culture on someone, or give the culture space and be accused of trying to keep the man down. Take your pick. However I agree there is nothing wrong with studying your own culture and I hope it gained her insight and wisdom. I know reading it gave me a new understanding of things and raised questions I’d never thought to ask before.

who are more educated will gravitate toward others who share similar life styles and economic/ educational status whether it be through work or community activities no matter what racial culture you were exposed to during your formative years. A well educated black or white person unlikely would ever associate with a very impoverished black or white person on a social level. They are in completly different circles of society in general.

  41. I,myself, had to write a critique of this paper as an assignment in my college Social Work program. 1989 ish. I wrote at the time that I found the author to be racist and the paper to be disorganized and rambling. I received a failing grade for that assignment, (I had a 4.0 at the time) , and was told that Blacks could not be racist, because they did not control the institutions. I was also refereed to the Dean of Social Work, a black woman, who told me that a “white girl like me from the Suburbs” would not be allowed for further study in the MSW program, and would not make a very good social worker, because I didn’t understand the issues of the black community. I absolutely hate this paper, but it did save me from a life of being conflicted in the world of Social Work.

  46. I came from a very poor lower class background and I am white. And after growing older and realizing that I have to build whatever future for me, myself, and not blame my parents bad mistakes and repeating them. Wow! Lots of regrets and mistakes have been made by me. But I will say this with total clarity; of I stay away from trashy poor white people and the mistakes or culture or whatever someone might want to call it that keep them there, then I changed more to the better and see it for what it is. I am not poor now, and I see myself as an American and truly don’t care what color a person is as long as they do not blame their mistakes on me because I am white. Mrs. Obama would be well advised to lose the I’m black attitude and concentrate on am am the First Lady of The United States and realize she is representing us all whether we voted for Obama or not. 48. Hmm… scholarships to Ivy League colleges for her and her hubby. He is the first black POTUS, and she the first black FLOTUS with world class perks, including taking multimillion dollar vacations on our dime, and the racist bimbo is STILL playing the race card…
I guess if it weren’t for her hubby’s massive failures in all phases of the presidency, she’d be able to play something OTHER than the race card…

Does running a well-established blog like yours require a large amount of work?
I’m completely new to blogging but I do write in my journal on a
daily basis. I’d like to start a blog so I can share my experience and feelings online.
Please let me know if you have any kind of suggestions or tips for
brand new aspiring blog owners. Appreciate it!
