JORDAN CALLS UPON INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO "PROTECT THE TEMPLE MOUNT AND ITS GATES"

This is just like saying that Washington, DC is off limits to ALL Americans! ONLY WORSE.
JORDAN CALLS UPON INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO "PROTECT THE TEMPLE MOUNT AND ITS GATES"
On Sunday Jordan called upon international organizations such as the UN, Unesco and the Security Council to take measures to prevent Israel from "causing damage to al Aqsa" (the Temple Mount).
The government of Jordan consistently objects to any Jewish presence on the Temple Mount and consistently calls upon International bodies to prevent Israel from creating any change in the current "status quo" on or around the Mount. The Muslim Waqf which has been entrusted with the daily administration of the Temple Mount is under the jurisdiction of Jordan. Over the past twenty years the Waqf has wantonly destroyed archaeological remnants of the first and second Temples and has engaged in an aggressive campaign denying the historical existence of the Holy Temple, claiming that the Temple Mount, (al Aqsa, as they call it), is an exclusively Muslim site from the beginning of time. Jordan signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994.
Israel is currently renovating the wooden ramp that leads from the Western Wall Plaza to the Mugrabi Gate entrance to the Temple Mount. The ramp and Mugrabi Gate are used exclusively by Jews and non-Muslim tourists, as it is the only gate through which non-Muslims are allowed access to the Temple Mount. Muslims have access to the Temple Mount via ten separate gates.
The wooden ramp leading to the Mugrabi Gate was originally built in 2007, following a 2004 earthquake and snow storm which caused the collapse of the earthen ramp which had been in use until then. The wooden ramp was intended to be a temporary solution. Plans were drawn up for a permanent ramp after painstaking archaeological exploration guaranteed that no archaeological remnants would be damaged.
When Israel announced the beginning of the construction of the new permanent ramp the government of Jordan called upon Israel to stop construction immediately and threatened regional violence if Israel proceeded with the work. Israel acquiesced and the temporary wooden ramp became permanent. Two years ago the city of Jerusalem condemned the wooden ramp declaring it unsafe.
Israel has recently begun constructing a new wooden ramp to replace the current ramp. The new ramp is being built alongside the old ramp. The ramp extends over an area that Israel has previously excavated and opened to the public. The new ramp does not threaten any of the archaeology in the area.
