New Zealand Prime Minister John Key was accused of misleading the public by Edward Snowden in a new series of leaks that highlight similarities in the surveillance programs overseen by both President Barack Obama and one of his closest English-speaking political friends on the world stage.
Snowden aimed his Monday morning essay at Key, the prime minister since 2008 and leader of New Zealand’s centrist, right-leaning National Party. Snowden and journalist Glenn Greenwald are leading somewhat of a high-profile anti-surveillance push in the country centered around New Zealand’s Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB).
“At the NSA, I routinely came across the communications of New Zealanders in my work with a mass surveillance tool we share with GCSB, called ‘X KEYSCORE.”” He further detailed that “the GCSB provides mass surveillance data into XKEYSCORE. They also provide access to the communications of millions of New Zealanders to the NSA at places such as the GCSB facility in Waihopai, and the Prime Minister is personally aware of this fact.”
Key shot back, denying all of the claims outright.
“Claims have been made tonight that are simply wrong and that is because they are based on incomplete information. There is not, and never has been, a cable access surveillance program operating in New Zealand. There is not, and never has been, mass surveillance of New Zealanders undertaken by the GCSB,” Key said.
Key is a golf buddy of Obama’s, and one of the president’s closest friends among world leaders. He was at the White House in June and golfed with Obama in Hawaii this winter.
“The last time I saw him, we were on a golf course in Hawaii with his son,” Obama said of his “good friend” Key in the Oval Office this summer, “and although we will not divulge the scores it is important to know that John’s son Max can outdrive both of us by a substantial amount.”

Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell was on a tour of the White House Visitor Center.
Also in attendance was Fred Ryan (the White House Association Chairman) and Jonathan Jarvis (National Park Service Director). Sounds like a super lame snooze fest, right?
Well not quite! Check out Jewell’s raunchy joke in her comments:

Sally Jewell drew laughs several times during her remarks.
Noting one of her favorite artifacts in the Visitor Center are the chocolate molds used by pastry chefs to create the White House seal, she said, “As I’ve taken friends to lunch at the White House, yes, people have taken pictures of the butter.”
She also offered up a lighter, and perhaps unintentionally awkward moment,
“This interactive center is just that, interactive. It encourages people to touch. So for those of us that have children or grandchildren, or even if we love to touch ourselves, there’s some great stuff out there.” Your pooler observed a few nervous glances after the comment.

What the heck! The Obama Administration has plenty of failures, but apparently they have a culture which allows such a shamefully inappropriate joke to be told at an official event.

It would seem likely if such chemical weapons were in fact used, ISIS forces obtained them from Syria.

Now here’s where such a scenario gets increasingly murky:

Barack Obama, in his recently televised prime time address regarding the ISIS/ISIL threat, congratulated his own administration for, and I quote,

It is America that helped remove and destroy Syria’s declared chemical weapons so they cannot pose a threat to the Syrian people — or the world — again.

Either those declared and “destroyed” chemical weapons found their way into ISIS hands, or Barack Obama’s self congratulation left a whole slew of “undeclared” chemical weapons available in Syria.

So which is it – yet more gross incompetence by the Obama administration that has allowed the world’s most dangerous terrorist organization to have reportedly  obtained chemical weapons, or an intentional lie by an administration increasingly desperate to appear they are not as dangerously detached as more and more accuse them of being?

Likely both…

Jacksonville, Florida Teacher Suspended After Shocking Sex Ed Demonstration

A substitute teacher in Jacksonville, Florida has been suspended from her job this week after a student captured photographs of the educator wearing a phallic apparatus and pantomiming graphic, adult-oriented scenarios during class. Sharon Mercer is the 39-year-old substitute teacher who was hired to present a course in sexual education for a group of 6th grade students at Clinton Middle School. The School, which is located in Duval County, five minutes outside of Jacksonville, FL, is occupied by over 200 students, and teaches grades 5 to 9.
The disciplinary action occurred after several photographs of Ms. Mercer’s questionable demonstration was posted onto the popular image site, imgur. The pictures, taken with a student’s cell phone, clearly depict Mercer mimicking lewd gestures of questionable legal, ethical and educational value.
Mercer, who identifies as a bisexual, gender-queer woman, is a proud member of the LGBTQ community, claims she did nothing wrong by portraying these acts for her class, and that the students left school far more enlightened than they had been prior to the days lesson.

In an email exchange with Modern Woman Digest, Sandra Mercer insisted that her suspension was an act of bigotry, and a step back for gay rights in the workplace.
Clinton Elementary School declined to comment on the teacher’s suspension, returning neither our phone calls nor our emails. Fortunately we were able to get in touch with one of the parents whose child attended Ms. Mercer’s class on the day in question.
“It’s sick” said Nancy Watts, mother of two, and long time resident of Duval county. “I went to this very same elementary school when I was a little girl. There were never any sort of these nasty classes back then. If a teacher had done something like what Ms. Mercer did, they would have been locked up in the county jail. How dare she leave the parents to explain all the disturbing mental images she has left our children with? Now my little girl thinks she may be gay. She can’t be gay! She’s only ten years old!”
Other residents of the small community are said to share similar sentiments regarding the teacher’s antics, and the parents have banned together in protest, calling for the faculty members permanent termination. It is still unknown what the school board’s final judgement will be on the matter, but they have issued a letter of apology to the parents and students who attended Mercers class, and assured them that the offending material will be omitted from future sex ed courses indefinitely.

  In a stunning op-ed released Friday, the NY Times finally admitted that "assault weapons" are a made-up political term fabricated by anti-gun Democrats. Op-ed writer Lois Beckett also admitted that once the term was manufactured and used to outlaw a class of weapons that dishonest anti-gun Democrats had used to con an entire nation, nothing happened.

It was much the same in the early 1990s when Democrats created and then banned a category of guns they called "assault weapons." America was then suffering from a spike in gun crime and it seemed like a problem threatening everyone. Gun murders each year had been climbing: 11,000, then 13,000, then 17,000. Democrats decided to push for a ban of what seemed like the most dangerous guns in America: assault weapons, which were presented by the media as the gun of choice for drug dealers and criminals, and which many in law enforcement wanted to get off the streets. This politically defined category of guns — a selection of rifles, shotguns and handguns with “military-style” features — only figured in about 2 percent of gun crimes nationwide before the ban. Handguns were used in more than 80 percent of murders each year, but gun control advocates had failed to interest enough of the public in a handgun ban. Handguns were the weapons most likely to kill you, but they were associated by the public with self-defense. (In 2008, the Supreme Court said there was a constitutional right to keep a loaded handgun at home for self-defense.) Banning sales of military-style weapons resonated with both legislators and the public: Civilians did not need to own guns designed for use in war zones. On Sept. 13, 1994, President Bill Clinton signed an assault weapons ban into law. It barred the manufacture and sale of new guns with military features and magazines holding more than 10 rounds. But the law allowed those who already owned these guns — an estimated 1.5 million of them — to keep their weapons. The policy proved costly. Mr. Clinton blamed the ban for Democratic losses in 1994. Crime fell, but when the ban expired, a detailed study found no proof that it had contributed to the decline.

They created and then banned a class of weapons. "Assault weapons" is a made-up term, used to scare citizens into thinking that military weapons were commonly being sold and used on the streets of the United States. Thanks to a dishonest and incompetent media, millions of Americans thought (and still think) that machine guns could simply be purchased at the local gun store. The reality that the Hughes Amendment to the Firearm Owners Protection Act outlawed the manufacture of automatic weapons for the civilian market in 1986, was always hushed up. Yes, it has been 28 years since a single machine gun was manufactured for the American public. There are no assault rifles being sold in the United States. There are only firearms that look like weapons of war, but which lack their ability to fire multiple shots with a single pull of the trigger. These firearms—AR-15s, AKMs and similar rifles—while incredibly popular with America's law-abiding gun culture, simply aren't used in many crimes. This should be surprising, since they are now among the most popular firearms sold in the United States in the past decade. The AR-15, in particular, is the most popular rifle sold in the United States year after year, and there are ten times as many in civilian hands as there are visually similar M4/M16 assault rifles in the entire U.S military. But career criminals don't want long guns. They want firearms that are compact and easy to conceal. The op-ed concludes that violent homicides are primarily a poverty issue disproportionately concentrated among small groups of particularly violent young men, a stunning and rare admission that poverty and the drug trade are the primary problem driving murder, not access to firearms. Don't expect this sort of stunning admission of the facts to mark a change in cover from the Times, however. The brief bout of lucidity will quickly fade behind the veil of Alzheimer's liberalism, and we'll hear the rest of the deranged gaggle of op-ed writers to quickly fall back into the mantra of "Guns are bad, the NRA is evil, we need more taxes, government, citizen control, etc." Still... it's nice to see that every once in a while a real and honest thought can escape from the morass of Manhattan, however fleeting that honest thought may be.
