President Obama’s Syria problem — through the lens of Michael Grimm

President Obama’s Syria problem — through the lens of Michael Grimm

Things are looking increasingly Grimm for the White House when it come to Syria.
No, that’s not a typo (a bad play on words, yes, but not a typo). It’s a way of saying that Rep. Michael Grimm’s (R-N.Y.) decision Thursday to withdraw his support for a military strike in Syria is a near-perfect microcosm of the direction in which this debate is currently headed.
Rep. Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.). (Tom Williams – ROLL CALL/GETTY IMAGES)
After President Obama asked Congress to authorize military action, the combat veteran Grimm quickly jumped on-board: “I am supporting the president on this. … We have to keep our word; this is about our credibility. We can’t permit a precedent where there is a use of chemical weapons and there is no response.”
Five days later, things changed.
“Unfortunately, the time to act was then and the moment to show our strength has passed,” Grimm said, adding: “Additionally I have heard from many constituents who strongly oppose unilateral action at a time when we have so many needs here at home.”
Grimm isn’t the only one getting an earful from his district. To wit:

All of these members oppose the use of military force right now, but they aren’t the only ones who have noted the imbalance.
“My phones are bouncing off the hook, and almost unanimously people are saying do not get involved in a bloody and chaotic civil war in Syria,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who is skeptical of military action in Syria, told a local TV station.
“I don’t know a member of Congress whose e-mails and phone calls are in favor of this,” Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.), a supporter of military action, told the Post’s Ezra Klein.
Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), who supports military action, told The Post the reaction in his district has been “overwhelmingly negative” toward the idea.
All of this evidence, of course, is anecdotal, but the preponderance makes it pretty clear that opponents of military action have been much, much more active in contacting their members of Congress than supporters. One GOP aide said his member hadn’t received so much feedback from the opposition since the Obamacare debate.
Here’s why that matters:
Perhaps just as important as all the phone calls from the opposition, these anecdotes all suggest that there is very little in the way of a counterbalance — i.e. people vocally urging their members to vote ‘yes.’
The takeaway message for all these members of Congress, then, is that voting “yes” will win you very few political friends, but voting “no” will alienate a whole bunch of people who are passionate, able and willing to make your phone ring off the hook. For your average risk-averse politician, that matters.
The polls make clear that taking action in Syria is not popular among really any segment of the population, but even the margins in those polls under-sell the vehemence of the opposition. And in politics, enthusiasm can mean just as much as (or more than) general sentiment.
As of now, there are very few in the House who are committed to supporting military action (24 out of 435 members). And given nearly half of the House is either against military action or skeptical, the White House needs to bring basically all of the purely undecided members on-board.
Almost all of these members will be treated in the days ahead to a chorus of constituents who oppose military action. And that matters a whole lot.
Fixbits:
Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) are circulating an alternative Syria resolution.
The Obama administration is planning a $12 million ad campaign to promote Obamacare.
Jesse Benton, the campaign manager for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and a former Ron Paul aide, sharply criticized the Senate Conservatives Fund for targeting McConnell with an ad. “There are few organizations in American politics more responsible for the Democratic Majority in the U.S. Senate, and thus the continued existence of Obamacare, than the Senate Conservatives Fund,” said Benton.
The White House launched a Web site to make its case for military action in Syria. And Obama canceled a Monday trip to California to stay in Washington to try to build support for an attack.
A Monmouth University poll shows that many Americans don’t know that party control of the House and Senate is divided.
Mike Huckabee is not ruling out a run for president in 2016.
Michigan Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land (R) used the debate over Syria to raise money.
Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee (D) is just the fourth governor of the state since 1790 to decline to run for a second term.
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) wrote on Facebook that she got locked out of the Governor’s mansion in her robe while sending her children off to school.

Iran threatens brutal attacks on Americans, Obama family if US hits Syria

As Congress debates whether to support President Obama’s call for a limited strike against Syria for the alleged use of chemical weapons, Iran is vowing to back Bashar al-Assad’s regime to the hilt and threatening to unleash terrorism should the U.S. strike.
Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s Quds Forces, Wednesday told the Assembly of Experts — the body that chooses the supreme leader — that “[w]e will support Syria to the end.”
And in an unprecedented statement, a former Iranian official has warned of mass abductions and brutal killings of American citizens around the world and the rape and killing of one of Obama’s daughters should the United States attack Syria.
Alireza Forghani, the former governor of southern Iran’s Kish Province, threw down the gauntlet last week. Forghani is an analyst and strategy specialist in the supreme leader’s camp and closely aligned with Mehdi Taeb, who heads the regime’s Ammar Strategic Base, a radical think thank, and thus speaks with the blessing of the Islamic regime.
“Hopefully Obama will be pigheaded enough to attack Syria, and then we will see the … loss of U.S. interests [through terrorist attacks],” he threatened. “In just 21 hours [after the attack on Syria], a family member of every U.S. minister [department secretary], U.S. ambassadors, U.S. military commanders around the world will be abducted. And then 18 hours later, videos of their amputation will be spread [around the world].”
A similar act was committed in a video of the torture of William Buckley, a CIA station chief who was abducted in Beirut in 1984 and later killed by Hezbollah on Iran’s order. That video was dropped off at the U.S. Embassy in Athens. Former CIA Director William Casey later described what he saw in the video: “They had done more than ruin his body. His eyes made it clear his mind had been played with. It was horrific, medieval and barbarous.”

In addition, Forghani warned, “We should remind Obama that if you are a bastard, there are other bastards all around the world who can assault Sasha.” The statement is written in both English and Farsi, but in the Farsi version, Forghani clearly stated that Sasha will be raped by someone who has been able to get close to the Obama family.
“Obama will attack Syria and then you’ll go to hell, and the world’s public opinion will accept that you deserve to be attacked and assaulted, so please attack,” Forghani concluded.
Forghani, though not holding an official position within the regime but in a country that tightly censures the media, has stated his radical positions in articles that have been run by the majority of the regime’s media and has written several commentaries on the need for the destruction of Israel. One such article described the need for the Islamic Republic to have nuclear weapons and in another he laid out the legal case for the annihilation of Israel and all Jewish people. The latter, which ran in all of the regime’s media outlets, called for a pre-emptive strike on Israel. Based on this pre-emptive doctrine, he suggested, several “ground zero” points of Israel must be destroyed and its people annihilated.
Forghani cited the last census by the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics that shows Israel has a population of 7.5 million citizens of which a majority, 5.7 million, are Jewish. The census breaks down the districts with the highest concentration of Jewish people, indicating that three cities, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa, contain over 60 percent of the Jewish population. Forghani wrote that Iran could target the three with its Shahab 3 ballistic missiles, killing all of its inhabitants.
Forghani’s threats last Wednesday were further emphasized by the chief commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, Mohammad Ali Jafari, who on the same day told the regime’s Fars News Agency that “America’s vision in its ability for a limited strike in Syria is an illusion. The reactions will be beyond Syria’s borders … [and] those who participate with America in this matter will soon witness threats on their national security.”
Taeb, the head of the Ammar Strategic Base, had previously stated that, “Syria is the 35th province [of Iran] and a strategic province for us … if we lose Syria, we won’t be able to hold Tehran.”
Regime officials, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have made it clear on many occasions that Assad’s regime is their red line and that any attack on Syria will have grave consequences for Israel and America.
Obama has stated that he is determined to punish Assad for the alleged recent chemical attack on his own people that killed more than 1,400 civilians, hundreds of them children.

Report: Chinese, Russian warships and Marines heading to Syrian waters

Report: Chinese, Russian warships and Marines heading to Syrian waters

As the American naval presence off the coast of Syria awaits for potential orders to launch an attack on the civil war ravaged nation, the Yanks aren't the only ones beefing up their respective armadas, as reported by the Madras, India based TheHindu.com on Sept. 5, 2013 and the Russian-language news aggregateTelegrafist.org (The Telegrapher) on Sept. 4, 2013.
The pride of the Russian Fleet, the battle cruiser RFS (Russian Federation Ship) Moskva will also pull double-duty as the command and control flagship for the task force.
The RFS Moskva will be joined by a destroyer fromRussia's Baltic fleet and a frigate from the Black Sea fleet.
According to Russia's Interfax news agency, the battle cruiser Moskva is heading to the Gibraltar Straits, and in approximately 10 days it will enter the east Mediterranean, where it will take command of the Russian ships already on station.
Russia is also sending a reconnaissance ship to the region, which reportedly would operate separately from the main naval flotilla.

China Enters The Possible Fray...
Unconfirmed by Western media, the Russian news aggregate Telagrafist is citing various sources that the Chinese amphibious assault warship, the CNS (Chinese Navy Ship) Jing Gangshan is heading towards the eastern Mediterranean potential powder keg to "observe" American and Russian warships.
However, the Kenyan news portal CoastWeek.com via Google News reported on Aug. 27, 2013 that theJing Gangshan is currently steaming in the Gulf of Aden pulling pirate escort duty for commercial shipping.
Unreleased to the Western media, it is unknown if or how many Chinese Marines are embarked aboard theJing Gangshan, but she is designed to transport upwards of 1,000 Marines and their equipment.
From the Gulf of Aden to the eastern Mediterranean waters takes approximately five days sailing time.

Alpena Michigan, a "Warm and Friendly Port" on the shoreline of Lake Huron has been the epicenter of strange goings on for over a year. A mysterious, and as yet unexplained, explosion rocked hundreds of square miles of the northeastern shore of the Lower Peninsula from Presque Isle 20 miles north of Alpena, to Ossineke 30 miles to the south, and out west to Lachine on June 6th, 2012.

This explosion was reported by scores of frightened citizens on Facebook and in calls to 911. They have also been confirmed by local law enforcement, yet local media has remained strangely - and suspiciously - silent.

This could very well be because the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center is directly in the middle of the locations provided by Facebook users reporting where they were when they felt the explosion; and because the ACRTC is also the new home of a General Dynamics drone facility where R&D, manufacturing, pilot training, and operational missions are soon to become the order of the day, bringing millions of dollars and hundreds of jobs to Alpena County.

In the skies above the ACRTC three UFOs, including a classic TR-3B triangle-shaped craft, have been caught on video, and one witness reported seeing US fighter jets intercept and engage a UFO over Lake Huron 12 hours after the explosion in 2012. That incredible report begged for physical evidence to back up its authenticity, so this reporter went to Flightradar24.com and looked at the radar tracks for the time frame around the report of the jet's dogfight with the UFO.

Even more incredible than the initial report of the dogfight were the three aircraft that disappeared from radar within 50 miles of Alpena within hours of the reported dogfight. While other planes on the screen, identified by the transponders in their tail sections, continue on to their destinations, these three aircraft approach Alpena and appear to be held motionless for about 15 minutes - as if in a Star Trek-like "tractor beam" - before disappearing from radar. HD screen captures of these disappearances are linked in the video and in the text below.

None of these planes were ever reported missing.

After this explosion was initially reported by The Truth Is Viral last year, the CIA noticed that TTiV noticed, and sought to discredit the report by including the facts presented in a fanciful piece of disinformation titled "380 Michigan Rebels Reported Killed In Michigan Battle" by known CIA disinformation asset Sorcha Faal aka Rabbi David Booth. That the CIA cared at all is a huge red flag indicating their involvement in nefarious activities at the base.

Since then more witnesses have come forward to tell their stories and at least two of them have been victims of intimidation by the military, that intimidation coming in the form of attack helicopters hovering just 20 feet above their backyards. Video of these helicopters and the testimony of a combat-wounded Army Ranger are also linked in this video and in the text below.

Most recently Bob Powell, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of The Truth Is Viral, encountered four individuals in the Walmart a few miles from the entrance to the base that bore all the hallmarks of Special Forces soldiers. The fact that they began speaking in Russian was the proverbial icing on the cake: These four armed men were Spetsnaz.

US plans for '3 days of attack' on Syria - target list to include "many more" than the initial list of around 50 targets

The Pentagon is readying more intense and longer attacks on Syria than originally planned, set to last three days, the Los Angeles Times reported on Sunday.
War planners now aim to unleash a heavy barrage of missile strikes to be followed swiftly by additional attacks on targets that may have been missed or remain standing after the initial launch, the Times cited officials as saying.
Two US officers told the newspaper that the White House has asked for an expanded target list to include "many more" than the initial list of around 50 targets.

President Obama Finally Admits: “I’m not the strapping young Muslim Socialist that I used to be.”

President Obama Finally Admits: “I’m not the strapping young Muslim Socialist that I used to be.”

President Obama
Old folks say “Many a truth is told in jest” and “Behind every joke is a kernel of truth.” When President Obama took the podium during the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on saturday, he told the truth cloaked in witty one-liners.

President Obama and Michelle Obama
Obama, who is under fire for ignoring Russia’s warnings about the Boston bombers, said “I’m not the strapping young Muslim Socialist that I used to be.”
Earlier this month the president was forced to apologize for saying Kamala Harris was the best looking Attorney General. He made a joke about that too. “As you can imagine, I got in trouble when I got back home. Who knew Eric Holder was so sensitive?”
The barbs came fast and furious: “I’ve got 99 problems and now Jay Z is one,” cracked Obama about his homie who is traveling in Europe with Beyonce. Obama also cracked jokes about the Republican party, Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Michele Bachmann.
