Muslim Brotherhood supporter gets Homeland Security promotion

A controversial Homeland Security advisor who was recently promoted to senior fellow is a self-declared Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood and Mohamed Morsi supporter.
Mohamed Elibiary, who was appointed to the Department of Homeland Security Advisory Council by then-Secretary Janet Napolitano in 2010, tweeted Thursday that his appointment was renewed and his position elevated:

Elibiary’s tenure on the advisory council created controversy almost from the start. About a year after his appointment, PJ Media reported that he used his new federal security clearance to download information on the Texas Department of Public Safety and sell it to left-leaning media outlets as proof of Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s “Islamophobia.”
The media didn’t bite; the proof existed only in Elibiary’s mind.
U.S. Reps. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., and Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, joined three other congressmen to raise alarms about Elibiary and others in the Obama administration with apparent ties to, or at least sympathies with, the Muslim Brotherhood. The response was that the concerns smack of McCarthyism, according to a PJ Media report.
So is there any truth to the claims?
Perhaps the most distinctive feature of Elibiary’s Twitter profile photo is the black four-finger salute on yellow background located on the lower right. The Muslim Brotherhood adopted the logo to symbolize the Aug. 14 “martyrdom” of pro-Morsi demonstrators in Cairo, according to Front Page Mag.
If his sympathies were still in doubt, on Sept. 6, Elibiary re-tweeted a photo “with love” depicting a Cairo pro-Muslim Brotherhood rally as it made its way on a bridge crossing the Nile.

All those holding public office require the trust of the people they serve. That’s why they must avoid even the appearance of impropriety. But Elibiary is not being held to that standard, and the consequences are being felt around the world.
The people of Egypt regard the Obama administration as pro-Morsi and pro-Muslim Brotherhood, although the president has been silent on the subject, even to the point of not calling the recent change in government a coup.
It’s long past time to clean house, beginning with Elibiary, and risk the cries of McCarthyism and “Islamophobia” that will surely follow. The government’s relations with Middle East countries can no longer afford this “advisor.”

Update: High School AP History Book Rewrites 2nd Amendment

It is our duty to stop stuff like this.
Guyer High School (and obviously several others) are complicit in attempting to condition students to interpret the 2nd Amendment in a clearly opposite manner in which it was intended. The 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th are also misinterpreted as several commenters below pointed out.
This textbook, currently being used by Guyer High School, is attempting to redefine the Second Amendment to impressionable young minds. Parents, you must speak up and demand action. Investigate your child's history book ASAP, and post more pictures in the comments below. Call your school and demand that revisionist history books like this are removed from the school district.

Textbook version: "The people have a right to keep and bear arms in a state militia."
Actual 2nd Amendment: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Did you catch the sleight of hand?
A militia is a body of citizens enrolled for military service, and called out periodically for drill but serving full time only in emergencies. It's a common man army of citizens, NOT soldiers. The citizens are called up in emergencies to protect the free State.
The 2nd Amendment says that a militia is necessary to protect a free State, so in order to be able to have a militia, the citizens have a natural right to keep and bear arms and the government cannot infringe on that right.
The textbook version implies that we're only allowed to keep and bear arms if we're in a State militia, a clear misrepresentation of the 2nd Amendment.

1. Call Guyer High School and tell the appropriate person something like the following:
"Hello, my name is _______________. I saw that your AP History course has issued a book titled, United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination. In this book, on page 102, the definition provided for the Second Amendment is incorrect and seems to be suggesting that only members of a State Militia are allowed to keep and bear arms. Who made the decision to use this text book? I'd like them to issue a public statement on this book's attempt to redefine the 2nd Amendment and why they chose to use it. We would also like this issue to be discussed at the next school board meeting. Please include it on the official agenda."

Just got off the phone with Kim Stevenson, Admin to the Superintendent.
1. Board members will not address any speaking on an item that is not part of the official agenda.
2. A community member could not add an item to the agenda.
3. You must sign in at Kim's desk in order to speak. You can speak up to 2 times and for 3 minutes. If a large number of us are attending we can assign a person to be our spokesperson and they may possibly give that person extra time.
The state adopts the textbooks every couple of years. She advised that besides attending next week's board meeting that we also speak with Darrell Muncy, Director of Student Services or speak with someone in the curriculum department.

Jihadists celebrate Navy Yard shooting as call from al-Qaida leader

An intelligence group that monitors the jihadist threat around the world found Muslim extremists reacting with glee to Monday’s mass shooting at the U.S. Navy Yard.
Many of the writings on highly monitored jihadi Internet forums expressed hope that the Navy Yard gunman was answering al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri’s recent call to strike America.
According to SITE Intelligence Group:

Users on the top-tier jihadi forums Shumukh al-Islam and al-Fida’ wrote, for example, “O blessings, your prayer O Sheikh Ayman [has been answered]… Here are the lone-wolves working from within the headquarters of the Marines,” and “Allah willing, this is a response to the speech of Sheikh al-Zawahiri”.
Recalling the November 2009 Fort Hood shooting by Nidal Hasan, one jihadist remarked: “In the Ummah [Muslim community] there are a thousand Nidals, Allah permitting”.

On September 12, al-Zawahiri released a speech where he called on jihadis to bring the “war” to America.

A Scarier Bird Flu: CDC Chief Warns of Looming H7N9 Threat

It was not an event for germophobes, as the CDC’s director described the crises Americans may soon face: an uncontainable virus, killer measles, and even the plague.

While the U.S. public-health system has made major strides in stopping smoking and preventing HIV/AIDS, there is still a slew of infectious diseases, new and old, that all Americans need to start thinking about.

Centers for Disease Control director Thomas Frieden outlined the looming crises in a talk this week, focusing on awareness and prevention while still name dropping a lot of scary stuff: the plague, bird flu, and killer measles. It was not a day for germophobes.
Never heard of H7N9 flu? Well, you might soon. It’s a recently discovered form of bird flu that Frieden said “is acting quite a bit like SARS,” the viral respiratory infection that has killed more than 8,000 people and created a worldwide panic in 2003.
H7N9 is lethal and spreads faster than any other identified strain of bird flu. It moves from animals to humans, but, unlike previous versions of bird flu, doesn’t make animals sick. As a result, infected flocks can’t be contained, and there’s no effective vaccine.
This strain was discovered in China this past April. Of the 130 human infections reported, there were 44 deaths related to respiratory illnesses. Most of the infections were found in people with direct exposure to poultry.
Infections in China have tapered off, but this bird flu appears to be as seasonal as human flus, and may come back stronger as it gets colder.
“The only thing protecting us from a global pandemic right now is the fact that it doesn’t yet spread from person to person,” Frieden told the National Press Club on Tuesday. Gulp.
He’s also concerned about antibiotic-resistant tuberculosis, which he said is “spreading in long-term-care facilities and hospitals widely.” Then there are what the CDC calls “intentional diseases”—chemicals or diseases like anthrax, which could be used as biological weapons.
What’s highest on Frieden’s agenda? The plague.
After a person in rural Uganda was infected with the plague by a sick rat or flea this year, 130 people were given preventive medication by CDC workers. That infection was contained.
But this scourge of the Middle Ages could have a terrifying modern application, too: “Plague is one of the organisms that we’re concerned about in terms of its potentially being used as a bio weapon,” Frieden said.
Another illness you might want to start taking seriously: the measles.
There are still over 400 deaths a day from measles around the planet, Frieden said, with plenty of infections in the U.S. from a malady he called “perhaps the most infectious of all the infectious diseases.”
“If you take, oh, let’s say a room with a couple hundred people in it, and there is one person coughing with measles and there are just three or four others who are susceptible, they’ll probably get it. It’s that infectious,” he said.
It wasn’t all bad news from Frieden.
The most preventable cause of death—smoking—has plummeted among Americans in recent years. Frieden pointed to CDC data that show more than 1 million Americans have tried to quit smoking, and 100,000 or more have quit smoking altogether. And, crediting the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, Frieden said some 5.5 million more people are able to live full lives even if they are HIV-positive.
Still—what about H7N9, drug-resistant TB, measles … and the plague?
Knowing about potential threats and focusing on prevention are key, Frieden said.
“I don’t think it’s rocket science,” he says. “Figure out what the problems are. Figure out what the solutions are. Implement those solutions. See if they’re working … tweak them, fix them, adjust them if they’re not.”

At least one CIA operative who was at the Benghazi compound while it was under terrorist attack has refused to sign a non-disclosure with the Obama administration, and now faces suspension and intimidation from administration officials according to a just released report via the Washington Free Beacon.

A CIA employee who refused to sign a non-disclosure agreement barring him from discussing the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, has been suspended as a result and forced to hire legal counsel, according to a top House lawmaker.

Rep. Frank Wolf (R., Va.) revealed at an event on Monday that his office was anonymously informed about the CIA employee, who is purportedly facing an internal backlash after refusing to sign a legal document barring him from publicly or privately discussing events surrounding the Benghazi attack.
…“My office received a call from a man saying that he knew a CIA employee who has retained legal counsel because he has refused to sign an additional NDA regarding the Sept. 11, 2012, events in Benghazi,” Wolf said in Sept. 9 remarks at a panel discussion hosted by Judicial Watch.

The NDA agreements are meant to instill fear in employees and stop them from speaking “to the media or Congress,” Wolf said on Monday.

Retired Air Force Col. Richard Brauer, cofounder of the group Special Operations Speaks, said the committee would aim to find out why U.S. military assets were ordered to “stand down” during the Benghazi attack.
“We’re tired of the lies and the cover-up that continues to this day,” Brauer said. “Who gave the order” to stand down, “to remain in place in Tripoli and the other locations and do nothing. When was this order given and why?”

Secret Courts Rule to Reveal Legalities of Patriot Act

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court has ruled, in response to the American Civil Liberties Union’s motion, that a 2011 opinion may be released to the public if a district court orders it. The court opinion found that the government had, in fact, “engaged in unconstitutional snooping.” FISC thinks the move will “contribute to an informed public debate” as it will better explain the interpretations of the surveillance law that requires United States phone carriers to relinquish all metadata concerning every phone call made within the country to the NSA.
The order, given by Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV, makes it very possible that the government will have to go public with court opinions associated with the legal interpretations of Section 215 of the United States Patriot Act. In the Patriot Act, Section 215 “allows the FISC to authorize broad warrants for most any type of ‘tangible’ record, including those held by banks, doctors and phone companies (Wired).”
Under this act, government agencies are only required to show that the information is “relevant” to their investigation. They do not need to show specific evidence or make a connection to terrorism to obtain this information. According to Wired.com Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wisconsin), who was in favor of and pushed for the Patriot Act in 2001, is having second thoughts and was quoted as saying that the government is now posing a “dangerous version of relevance.”
With last Wednesday’s ruling, the American public may get a glimpse of how cavalier the government has been with the word relevant. This decision marks an important step regarding the accountability of United States surveillance agencies. The FISC has now proven to be willing in permitting a level of public scrutiny of its decisions.
Judge Saylor set an October 4th deadline for the government’s lawyers to “identify all legal opinions sought by the ACLU and to establish a timetable to review any classified sections of the opinions for possible redactions prior to public release.” ACLU National Security Project Staff Attorney, Alex Abdo, calls this a “significant victory” and responded “We are pleased that the surveillance court has recognized the importance of transparency to the ongoing public debate about the NSA’s spying.” He also says “For too long, the NSA’s sweeping surveillance of Americans has been shrouded in unjustified secrecy.
Today’s ruling is an overdue rebuke of that practice. Secret law has no place in our democracy.” The new trend of transparency seems to stem from none other than Edward Snowden. Judge Saylor referred to Snowden’s leaks in his opinion stating “The unauthorized disclosure in June 2012 of a Section 215 order, and government statements in response to that disclosure, have engendered considerable public interest and debate about Section 215.
Publication of FISC opinions relating to this provision would contribute to an informed debate.” He adds, “Publication would also assure citizens of the integrity of this Court’s proceedings.” Whether it is a direct result of Snowden’s release of classified information or FISC just thinks it’s time to open the lines of communication, it looks very likely that the American public will soon be made aware of the controversial legalities regarding the Patriot Act.

At this time, 13 people are reported dead and several others wounded.
Police are also seeking a second potential suspect described as a middle aged African-American man of medium complexion with graying sideburns weighing approx 180 pounds and standing 5-feet-10 inches.

The incident took place just early Monday morning when Alexis walked into Building #197 at the Navy Sea Systems Command Headquarters and shot a security guard in the head before walking through the building shooting random victims. Alexis reportedly carried an AR-15, a handgun and a shotgun.

Family members seeking additional infromation regarding loved ones are being asked to call 202-433-6151 or 202-433-9713.
