CAIR-NJ Seeks Federal Charges for Bias Attack on 'Muslim' Cabbie

CAIR: Did 'Saturday Night Live' Cross the Line with 'Django' Parody?
"Such misrepresentation of what Jesus, peace be upon him, stands for is extremely offensive to Muslims and to all those who believe in his message," CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CAIR-NJ Seeks Federal Charges for Bias Attack on 'Muslim' Cabbie
(SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ, 2/28/13) - The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) today called for federal hate crime charges to be brought against a man charged yesterday with bias intimidation, harassment and robbery for allegedly demanding to know if a cabbie was Muslim, calling him a terrorist, punching him, and knocking off his turban.
The victim told police that the alleged attacker repeatedly asked him if he was Muslim. He reportedly said he was not, but later said he was a Muslim in order to end the conversation. After the cabbie said he was Muslim, the alleged attacker reportedly said, "You're a f--- terrorist."

"We urge federal law enforcement authorities to file hate crime charges in this case, in addition to those already filed against the alleged attacker," said CAIR-NJ Civil Rights Director Khurrum Ali. "Ethnic and religious violence should be treated with greater seriousness, as it adds insult to injury and reflects a hateful motive that must not be tolerated."
Ali noted that two New Jersey white supremacists are facing hate crime charges for allegedly attacking several men of Egyptian descent in 2011. One of the alleged attackers wrote on a website: "(W)e went to hunt down some sand n**gers, it was me and my other bro on like 6 or eight and we whooped them."

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

Obama White House Denies Staffer Threatened Journalist Bob Woodward – Emails Released

The Obama White House today denied that Gene Sperling, economic adviser to the president, threatened journalist Bob Woodward.
FOX News reported:

The White House is denying reports an adviser threatened famed Watergate journalist Bob Woodward after the Washington Post reporter challenged President Obama’s version of events on the looming sequester.

Woodward claimed Wednesday night that a White House aide sent him an email saying he would “regret” his comments. The aide was not identified, but an official familiar with the exchange told Fox News it was National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling. That was after Woodward wrote a column this past weekend claiming Obama was trying to re-write history — regarding not only whose idea the sequester was, but also how it would take effect.

Woodward wrote that based on his reporting earlier in the budget battle, the president was trying to move the goalposts by trying to replace the sequester with a mix of tax hikes and spending cuts — instead of solely spending cuts.

After Politico reported late Wednesday that Woodward was coming forward to claim he was threatened, a White House aide denied the claim.

Here’s one of the emails to Bob Woodward from Gene Sperling, via the Politico:

From Gene Sperling to Bob Woodward on Feb. 22, 2013

Bob:

I apologize for raising my voice in our conversation today. My bad. I do understand your problems with a couple of our statements in the fall — but feel on the other hand that you focus on a few specific trees that gives a very wrong perception of the forest. But perhaps we will just not see eye to eye here.

But I do truly believe you should rethink your comment about saying saying that Potus asking for revenues is moving the goal post. I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim. The idea that the sequester was to force both sides to go back to try at a big or grand barain with a mix of entitlements and revenues (even if there were serious disagreements on composition) was part of the DNA of the thing from the start. It was an accepted part of the understanding — from the start. Really. It was assumed by the Rs on the Supercommittee that came right after: it was assumed in the November-December 2012 negotiations. There may have been big disagreements over rates and ratios — but that it was supposed to be replaced by entitlements and revenues of some form is not controversial. (Indeed, the discretionary savings amount from the Boehner-Obama negotiations were locked in in BCA: the sequester was just designed to force all back to table on entitlements and revenues.)

I agree there are more than one side to our first disagreement, but again think this latter issue is diffferent. Not out to argue and argue on this latter point. Just my sincere advice. Your call obviously.

My apologies again for raising my voice on the call with you. Feel bad about that and truly apologize.

GOP Elites and the Abolition of Marriage

GOP Elites and the Abolition of Marriage

Republicans join push for gay Roe v. Wade.
Well, this is helpful.
A clutch of Republican elites have run to the Supreme Court demanding the judiciary shut off debate on gay marriage.
The story has predictably been front page news at the New York Times and in the world of the liberal media, the Times leading with this:
More than two dozen Republicans — including a top adviser to Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, and a former congresswoman who made banning same-sex marriage her signature issue — have added their names to a legal brief urging the Supreme Court to declare that gay couples have a constitutional right to wed.
The brief comes as the White House is considering whether to weigh in on the same-sex marriage case; at this point, the Republicans who signed the document are taking a more expansive stance than President Obama, who favors same-sex marriage but has said he would leave it to the states, as opposed to making it a constitutional right.
The list of Republicans on the brief now tallies more 100, organizers say. It now includes Beth Myers, who ran Mr. Romney’s 2008 campaign and was a senior adviser to him in 2012, and Marilyn Musgrave, a retired Colorado congresswoman who was once rated the most conservative member of the House by the American Conservative Union.
Ms. Musgrave, who lost her bid for a fourth term in 2008, was an unsuccessful sponsor of a constitutional amendment to bar same-sex couples from marrying; she once warned that if gay couples were allowed to wed, “the next step is polygamy or group marriage.”
The brief, organized by Ken Mehlman, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee who is gay, will be filed on Thursday as a friend-of-the-court, or amicus, brief to a lawsuit that seeks to overturn Proposition 8, a California ballot initiative that bars same-sex marriage, and all similar bans.
Some of the signatories’ names are published here at the Blaze. The group — including names such as Ted Olson (the Bush 43 Solicitor General), Meg Whitman (the last GOP nominee for Governor of California), Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida and Richard Hanna of New York, ex-Bush-appointed RNC chairman (and 2004 Bush campaign manager) Ken Mehlman, Bush national security adviser Stephen J. Hadley, Bush commerce secretary Carlos Guitierrez, Bush deputy attorney general James B. Comey and Reagan budget director David Stockman — has decided to force gay marriage on the American people without their consent.
Effectively making of this case a gay Roe v. Wade.
They are asking the Court to force an elitist world view on a nation in which thirty states have chosen by state constitutional amendment, referendum or legislation — this is called “consent of the governed” — to support marriage between a man and a woman.
Doing so in exactly the same fashion that the infamous Roe v. Wade abortion decision was designed to make abortion the law of the land without the consent of the governed. Thus launching 50 years of violence — abortion providers have been variously murdered, targeted for murder, assaulted, kidnapped and stalked — not to mention all those marches and angry protests. Let’s not forget the sheer vitriol directed at pro-lifers and, for that matter, the venomous tone of any debate on the topic.
Not to mention that this move to have the Court stop debate by overruling state legislative action on the issue is exactly the sentiment that was behind the infamous Dred Scott slavery decision. That would be Dred Scott v. Sandford, which the late Judge Robert Bork once described as “the worst constitutional decision of the nineteenth century” until, yes, Roe v. Wade. Dred Scott was designed to write slavery into the Constitution — without the consent of the governed — and thus helped launch the Civil War.
Gee. What a nice thing for Republicans to wish on the gay community. Decades of violence and vitriol.
But they’re so cool, yes? So with it. So sensitive.

Republicans: CIA nominee involved in Benghazi talking points

Republicans: CIA nominee involved in Benghazi talking points

By Julian Pecquet - 02/26/13 05:25 PM ET
President Obama's pick to head the CIA was involved in crafting controversial talking points about last year's attack in Benghazi, Republicans said Tuesday after viewing intelligence documents.
Lawmakers had vowed to block John Brennan's nomination unless they got to see internal communications about how to describe the attack that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. Several said the email chain of several pages, which they'd been seeking for months, doesn't change how they plan to vote either way.
“Brennan was involved,” Senate Intelligence Committee Vice-Chairman Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) said after the briefing. “It's pretty obvious what happened.”
“At the end of the day it should have been pretty easy to determine who made the changes and what changes were made.”
He described an “extensive, bureaucratic and frankly unnecessary process” that led to the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations publicly linking the attack to a peaceful protest gone awry. Republicans have accused the White House of twisting the talking points to avoid harming Obama's national security reputation ahead of the November elections.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), the panel's chairwoman, said Brennan's involvement was “small” and should play no part in his confirmation. The committee is scheduled to vote Thursday now that members have seen the documents.Several lawmakers said they still had concerns.
“It did not alleviate my concerns,” said Sen. James Risch (R-Idaho), who has said he'd vote against Brennan because of accusations that he leaked damaging national security information to the media.
“I wouldn't use the word alleviate,” said Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). “I think it raises other questions with regard to process. But we may have more to say about that in the next couple days.”
“I still have many concerns and believe there's still gaps in the information,” said Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine).
“The information today is unrelated to my personal decision on Brennan,” she said. She is expected to vote to confirm.
Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) said he didn't think the administration misled anyone with its talking points but that many other questions about the events of last September remain.
“We've got a lot more documents and requests to be fulfilled,” he said. “It answers a lot, if not all, of the questions that the committee from an oversight standpoint. This only related to talking points and there's a tremendous amount more documents that deal with the days leading up to and the day preceding Benghazi.”

DOFF announces a $1,000 award for the best short documentary on the theme “Where are the original IDs: Why judges refuse to order production of the original Obama’s IDs, when the copies were found to be forgeries???” Posted on | February 28, 2013 | 13 Comments Press release President of the Defend Our Freedoms Foundation, Attorney and Doctor Orly Taitz is announcing a short film competition on the theme: “Where are the original IDs: Why judges refuse to order production of original Obama’s IDs when the copies were found to be forgeries???” This competition is geared more towards younger people: high school and college students. The film should be 10-15 minutes long, not to exceed 20 minutes. The goal of the competition is to promote transparency on the White House, executive and legislative branches as well as in the U.S. Judiciary in light of the fact that Obama’s alleged copies of the IDs were found to be flagrant computer generated forgeries, Social Security number was found to be invalid and failing both E-Verify and SSNVS, and so far not one single judge has ordered production of the originals, something that would be done in any other case. We would like to see students involved and becoming young journalists and researches, civil rights leaders fighting corruption and interviewing multiple judges, US Attorneys, AGs, governmental officials and Obama himself, asking pointed questions: why can’t we see the original documents?
