Utah Sheriffs: we’ll “trade our lives” to preserve Second Amendment

by Joel McDurmon on Jan 24, 2013
MSN Now reports,
The Utah Sheriffs’ Association has issued fightin’ words to President Obama. In a stern letter, the organization hints they would go to war against the federal government in the event their citizens are denied their right to bear arms against criminals and “tyrannical subjugation.”
The organization urges the government to “make no mistake … we will enforce the rights to our citizens guaranteed by the Constitution.”
In conclusion, the letter states: “We, like you, swore a solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and we are prepared to trade our lives for the preservation of its traditional interpretation.”
The Sheriffs point out, “It is easy to demonize firearms; It is also foolish and prejudiced.”
And, “we pray that the Almighty will guide the People’s Representatives collectively.”

RECOMMENDED READING: “Al-Azhar’s Double Game To Islamize Egypt And Maintain Power”

Print This Post Print This Post Asia News has posted an article titled “ Al-Azhar’s double game to Islamize Egypt and maintain power” that looks at the role of Al-Azhar in the Islamization of Egypt. The article begins:
01/14/2013 16:06 EGYPT -Cairo (AsiaNews) –  After replacing the heads of the Constitutional Court, officials close to the Islamist line President Mohamed Morsi and the passage of the Constitution, only the University of al-Azhar has the power and the authority to stop the spread of Islamic extremism in Egypt. The entrance of the Sharia into civil law concerns not only the Christian minority, but also Muslims. Until now, the most important university of Sunni Islam has maintained a moderate position and more than once its Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayeb gave the impression of being on the side of the secular opposition against the establishment dominated by Muslim Brotherhood and Salafis. However, according to the great scholar of Islam Samir Khalil Samir, such behavior is just a tactic employed by al-Azhar to maintain power. Starting from the very history of the university, responsible for the formation of thousands of imams, the priest examines the situation in Egypt, a victim of an Islam that uses ignorance and illiteracy to dominate the population. The constitution based on Sharia law approved in December is the result of this strategy and will not turn Egypt into an Islamic state. It is confusing and full of contradictions and is being used by Islamists to show the Egyptians that they are ‘true Muslims.’ For the scholar of Islam, al-Azhar has a great responsibility in the current situation in the nation. The university forms all imams in Egypt and most of the Sunni Muslim religious authorities throughout the world. For centuries, al-Azhar, has followed the ruling power. The rector of the University is appointed by the President of the Republic. The expenses of the organization and the formation of its imams are largely paid for by the government. As a result its support for the Constitution that binds civil law with Islamic law and its future support to the Muslim Brotherhood is not surprising. On the one hand the university presents itself as the spokesman for more balanced and representative Sunni Islam. On the other, it is opposed to the Salafists, but only because the majority of the population considers them too extreme. By supporting them, it would lose support.

U.S. media has reported on the struggle for control over Al-Azhar in Egypt, an important mosque and one of the oldest educational institutions in the Islamic world. According to a Washington Post report:
The revolution that began here two years ago with calls for justice and freedom has become a rout by Islamist forces that have racked up victory upon victory at the polls. But within Egypt and across the region, the real source of fears that the country is careening toward theocracy lies in an unlikely place: the ancient stone corridors of al-Azhar, a Cairo mosque and university complex that has long been known as a respected beacon of moderation. This month, the Muslim Brotherhood held funerals at al-Azhar mosque for members who were killed in clashes with secular demonstrators. That reputation is under threat, as far more hard-line elements of Egypt’s Islamic mosaic stage a rear-guard action for control. It is a battle that will gain newfound urgency on Saturday, when voters are expected to approve a draft constitution that gives al-Azhar extraordinary power to pass judgment on the religious merits of the nation’s laws. Al-Azhar leaders say they didn’t want the role but were pressured to accept it by adherents to a puritanical, Saudiinfluenced school of Islam known as Salafism, whose clout has surged in Egypt’s newly democratic era. “The Salafis want to make Azhar a part of the political system, which we are against,” said Abdel Dayem-Nossair, an adviser to al-Azhar’s grand sheik and a member of the assembly that wrote the new constitution. “We don’t like to put the law in terms of a religious dogma that says ‘ This is right’ or ‘ This is wrong.’ ” But under the new constitution, that is exactly what the millennium-old institution will soon be doing. Dayem-Nossair said he believes the Salafis insisted on the provision because “they think they’ll take over al-Azhar.” The fight over al-Azhar’s nature and role is one with profound implications for Egypt, but also far beyond. As much as anything, the Arab Spring uprisings and the tumult that followed have turned on the question of where Islam fits in society and who gets to interpret Islam. Al-Azhar has played a venerated role in that debate for centuries. It is widely considered the most distinguished center of Sunni Islamic thought, and it annually educates millions of students, many of whom travel here from across the globe.

Ex-Brotherhood Members To Establish New Dawa Organization; Kemal Helbawi Part Of Effort

Ex-Brotherhood Members To Establish New Dawa Organization; Kemal Helbawi Part Of Effort

Print This Post Print This Post Saudi media is reporting that former Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leaders who have defected from the group are planning to establish a new Dawa organization. According to an Asharq Alawsat report:
London, Asharq Al-Awsat – A number of former Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Egypt, who have defected from the group, have announced the beginning of procedures to establish a new Dawa organization to compensate for the Brotherhood’s neglect of Islamic advocacy due to their involvement in politics. In a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat yesterday, Sheikh Dr. Kamal Helbawy, a former spokesman for the ‘Muslim Brotherhood in the West’ and Secretary General of the Islamic Unity Forum, said that a number of dissident leaders have held intensive meetings to agree on the establishment of the group, and have settled on the name ‘Rehabilitation, Construction and Development’. He pointed out that among the leaders of the new organization is Dr. Mohammed Habib, a former Deputy General Guide, along with the dissident Brotherhood leader Mukhtar Noah and the UN war crimes expert Mahmoud Bassiouni. Dr. Helbawy denied that Dr. Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh had been listed as a member of the new organization in order to give it weight on the Egyptian street in the face of what he called ‘political conflicts with the Brotherhood’, because he is too busy heading the ‘Strong Egypt Party’. Dr. Helbawy confirmed that the new organization will be financed through membership subscriptions and contributions from those enthusiastic about the idea, and that it would be public and accessible to all. Dr. Helbawy confirmed that the trend of Islamist groups and movements heading in the direction of politics, and his and other Brotherhood leaders’ concern for Dawa work, were the reasons behind the establishment of this organization, seeking to restore the Dawa role to prominence. Dr. Helbawy said that the Muslim Brotherhood has been preoccupied with politics and forgotten its commitment to Dawa, pointing out that the new organization ‘will be tasked with Dawa, Islam and education, and will not interfere in politics’. He called on President Mohammed Mursi to be the president of all Egyptians, not just one group. He clarified that the new organization ‘will not be parallel to the Brotherhood and will be concerned only with Dawa affairs and religious issues that have been neglected at the expense of politics’. He added that the organization will not be limited to a single approach; rather it will adopt its methods based on a variety of Islamic sources, whilst maintaining that each member of the new organization has the right to join any party. Dr. Helbawy concluded by saying that the ‘Rehabilitation, Construction and Development’ publicity drive will end soon, so that real work can begin.”
According to his resume, Helbawi is the former official spokesperson of the Muslim Brotherhood in the West, one of the founders of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), and one of the founders of the Muslim Council of Britain, a U.K. umbrella organization comprised largely of Muslim Brotherhood organizations. He is currently the director of the London-based Center for the Study of Terrorism (CFSOT) which purports to be an anti-terror think-tank.
Egyptian media reported inn August that Helbawi had blamed the recent Islamist attack on Egyptian border policemen on a “Zionist and U.S. plan to destabilize Egypt.” He also said “America plans to control the future of the world and is interested in Egypt because it is a pivotal state and the most important country in the Arab region.” In late July, a post reported on Helbawi’s call for the U.S. to be “brought to its knees” and calling for the release of Omar Abd Al-Rahman. A post from April 2011 reported that Helbawi had returned to Egypt after 23 years of “voluntary exile” in the UK. Other previous posts have discussed some of Helbawi’s more incendiary statements including that the “Zionist Movement” obeys the orders of a single official and praising Osama Bin Laden as a “leader of Jihad.” Although a post from April reported that Helbawi had resigned from the Egyptian Brotherhood, he is known to have been a supporter of Abdel Moneim Abol Fotouh, the favored Egyptian presidential candidate of Global Muslim Brotherhood leader Youssef Qaradawi and is likely still involved with Global Brotherhood networks.
The Investigative Project has published an article titled “Ex Brotherhood Official Showcases Islamist Doublespeak” that examines the contradictory and deceptive statements of Kemal Helbawi (aka Helbawy), the former official spokesperson of the Muslim Brotherhood in the West.

RECOMMENDED READING “iran-brotherhood Ties: Rooted In History With Eye On Future”

Print This Post Print This Post The National, a UAE-based newspaper, has posted an article titled “ ”Iran-Brotherhood ties: rooted in history with eye on the future” which reviews the history of and prospects for the relationship between Iran and the Global Muslim Brotherhood. The article begins:
A salient feature of Iran’s foreign policy is its ability to build influence where least expected. With the ascent to power of Sunni Islamists throughout the region, and Iran’s support of the military campaign in Syria, many have argued that Iran’s regional standing is in decline.  But the opposite assessment needs to be taken seriously. Iran has been upbeat about the popular revolts, dubbing them an ‘Islamic Awakening’ and confident it can build strong ties with the people of the region after the demise of dictatorial rule in the Arab republics. That prospect is particularly true with the Muslim Brotherhood and its offshoots throughout the region – including even those that currently perceive Iran as an enemy, such as the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood. A closer look at the historical links and ideological similarities between Tehran’s mullahs and Arab Islamists shows that not only could Iran build ties with the emerging political forces in the region, but that it could develop a sustainable special relationship. One of the first encounters between the Muslim Brotherhood and Iranian figures who later helped to bring about Iran’s current regime was in Cairo, in 1954. Sayyid Navvab Safavi, an Iranian leader of the anti-Shah Fadayan-e Islam, met with senior Brotherhood members to bolster ties. Salim Al Bahnsawi, a Brotherhood intellectual who died in 2006, said of the meeting: ‘It’s not surprising that the similarities in approach between the two groups led to this cooperation’. And Rashid Ghannouchi, leader of the Ennahda Movement in Tunisia, has even described Fadayan-e Islam as an offshoot of the Brotherhood.”

A post from August reported that Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi was scheduled to attend the meeting of the Nonaligned Movement to beheld in Tehran at the end of the month. A post from June reported that President Morsi denied that he gave an interview to an Iranian news agency in which he was supposed to have said that Egypt would seek closer relations with Iran.  Whether or not the interview is authentic, there are reasons to believe that Egypt under a Muslim Brotherhood government will seek closer ties to Iran. In a 2009 piece titled “Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and Iran, Rapprochement between Sunnis and Shiites?”, Washington Institute for Near East Policy scholar Mehdi Khalaji looked at the relationship between the Egyptian government, the Muslim Brotherhood and Iran. According to the report:
During a February trip to Iran, Hamas leader Khaled Mashal praised Iranian leaders for their support during the conflict in the Gaza Strip, a further indication of the strengthening ties between the Sunni Islamist group, which the United States has designated as a terrorist organization, and the Shiite regime in Tehran. Mashal’s statements come on the heels of the U.S. Treasury Department’s terrorist designations of al-Qaeda leaders and operatives sheltered in Iran. These latest examples of Sunni-Shiite cooperation raise new questions about whether Iran can improve its relationship with Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood. While such a rapprochement appears unlikely, history suggests it is far from impossible. Iran has maintained informal ties to the Muslim Brotherhood for many years, and Shiite Islam probably has more appeal among Egyptian Sunnis than it does among Sunnis in other Arab countries. Iran’s sharp criticism of Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak is also likely to resonate with Egyptian radicals under the thumb of the regime in Cairo. If Iran were to develop close relations with the Brotherhood, Iranian influence would grow considerably in the Arab world, giving Tehran a significant say among Arab radicals and, undoubtedly, producing dangerous developments for U.S. interests in the region.
A previous post had also looked at the possibility of a closer relationship between the Egyptian Brotherhood and Iran.http://www.2911webdesign.com/#!cleos-page/c1582

Does Hillary have double vision after blood clot scare? Close up shot shows 'Fresnel prism' lenses in Clinton’s glasses

  • Hillary Clinton's glasses appeared to have a Fresnel prism on the lens when she appeared before the Senate this week
  • The stick-on prisms are used to assist people experiencing double vision
  • Doctors discovered a blood clot close to Clinton's brain after she suffered a fall and concussion last month

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has wasted no time in getting back to business since returning to work following treatment for a blood clot.
But tiny lines visible on the 65-year-old's glasses when she appeared before the Senate this week indicate she may still be experiencing the after-effects of her spell of ill health.
It is thought Clinton was wearing a Fresnel prism on her spectacles - a stick-on panel often used to treat double vision.

The faint vertical lines are visible on the left lens of Clinton's glasses in photographs taken during her testimony about the terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11 2012, in which four Americans were killed.

WHAT ARE FRESNEL PRISMS?

Fresnel prisms are wafer-thin, transparent sheets of adhesive plastic.
One side is fixed to the lens of the wearer's glasses, while the other has special grooves that alter the way light enters the eye.
The prisms, the strength of which can be adjusted depending on the patient's needs, are often used to treat double vision.
The stick-on panels may be worn for several months. If they prove particularly successful, patients can have glasses made with built-in prisms.
Double vision can occur in one or both eyes. It can be caused by an irregularly shaped cornea or abnormalities of the cornea, dry eye, or abnormalities of the lens or retina.
Eye experts told the New York Daily News it is likely she has had an adhesive Fresnel prism placed on her glasses.
'If she's wearing a Fresnel prism, then she has double vision without it,' said Dr Mark Fromer, medical director at Fromer Eye Centers.
He said the adhesive panel, which also aids muscle weakness, 'helps bring images into focus'.
The Secretary of State's spokesperson confirmed Clinton was wearing glasses as a result of the fall and concussion she experienced last month, but did not elaborate further.
Clinton returned to work earlier this month following a month long absence, after initially falling ill with a stomach virus.

While at home recuperating from the bug, which forced her to cancel a planned visit to North Africa and the Middle East, Clinton suffered concussion after fainting and falling.
Doctors later discovered a blood clot between her skull and her brain during a follow-up exam on December 30, and she was admitted to New York-Presbyterian for treatment with blood thinners.

Clinton attended back-to-back hearings on the Benghazi attack before the Senate and the House on Wednesday.
The attack on September 11 left four Americans dead, including ambassador Chris Stevens.
Clinton, who faced tough questions and harsh criticism from senators during heated exchanges on Capitol Hill, defended the State Department's response in the aftermath of the attack.

Obama Successfully Kills Off Another 3,900 Jobs at Texas Power Plant

In January 2008 Barack Obama told the San Francisco Chronicle:
“Under my plan of a cap and trade system electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Businesses would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that cost onto consumers.”
He promised that his plan would cause electricity rates to skyrocket.

He wasn’t kidding.
Barack Obama’s EPA just killed off another 3,900 energy jobs in Texas.
The Examiner reported, via FOX Nation:
Chase Power, the parent company behind the $3 billion Las Brisas coal power plant in Corpus Christi, Texas, announced yesterday that it was cancelling the project.
“Chase Power … has opted to suspend efforts to further permit the facility and is seeking alternative investors as part of a plan of dissolution for the parent company,” Chase CEO Dave Freysinger told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.
Freysinger made it very clear who was responsible for the projects death. “The (Las Brisas Energy Center) is a victim of EPA’s concerted effort to stifle solid-fuel energy facilities in the U.S., including EPA’s carbon-permitting requirements and EPA’s New Source Performance Standards for new power plants,” he said.
The Las Brisas power plant had been part of a larger Las Brisas Energy Center project planned for Corpus Christi’s Inner Harbor. Economists had projected that in the first 5 years of construction and operation the project would create as 1,300 direct and 2,600 indirect jobs. Now none of those jobs will exist.
Obama’s new EPA regulations will cost the coal industry $180 billion and force electricity rates to skyrocket.
