It's Not About Cliven Bundy - It's About Harry Reid and a Chinese Energy Giant

It's Not About Cliven Bundy - It's About Harry Reid and a Chinese Energy Giant

UPDATE (4/17/2014) - Much has been made of the situation regarding Cliven Bundy and his cattle grazing in what the federal government refers to as "public land." Because so much information has become available, it has been difficult to determine the validity of it. We have learned that the so-called Chinese connection between some land in Nevada, Harry Reid (and his son, Rory), along with a Chinese giant energy firm desirous of putting a solar plant there fell through in mid-2013. That solar plant was to be built miles away from the site where Bundy grazes his cattle.
Yet, what people may be missing is that an offsite mitigation area for the solar plant was potentially to be located in the same area where Bundy's cattle graze (see image below, third bullet under heading Examples of Restoration Funding and Viability Impacted). This has been a concern for local ranchers and interestingly enough, since the federal government is high on "green energy" (though many millions have been wasted by our government under President Obama with that money being "invested" into alternative energy companies), often information related to the environmental impact of such plants goes without comment.
There are many questions that need answers with respect to Cliven Bundy's situation. First of all, if the solar plant fell through as we are being told by various news stories, how do we know it has permanently fallen through? Could Harry Reid still be working behind the scenes to bring some new deal to fruition? Losing $5 billion for the state of Nevada is nothing to sneeze at and I personally find it ironic that throughout this entire situation, no one from Harry Reid's office or the White House made any comment until rumor had it that Reid was involved in some deal with the Chinese. They just allowed the BLM to use military tactics against Americans. But now Reid has the temerity to say the Bundy's will not get away with breaking the law. Good one, Harry. Pot calling the kettle black?
I think one of the reasons things like this happen and people find them difficult to let go of has more to do with the lack of integrity the federal government has created for itself. As far as I can tell, the Solar Energy Zone is still in effect. What does this mean for the future?
One article in the Las Vegas Sun goes into great depth to try to prove that Bundy's cattle area is too far away from the place where the solar plant was to have been built (as noted). But an "offsite mitigation area" isn't too far away, especially if the BLM notes that there were/are concerns of people about the environmental impact of such a facility in the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone (see image below removed from BLM's website).
Reid spokesman Kristen Orthman whined, "People find anything to label [Reid] as, or to connect things to that aren’t connectable...If it wasn’t this, they would be talking about something else." That fact has more to do with Harry Reid himself and his propensity to either lie or make up "facts" out of thin air. Only he can be blamed for that. If his integrity was intact, this whole issue might have seen accurate facts from the beginning. Unfortunately, it's obvious that the facts (or potential facts) are not clear because of the complete lack of clarity and transparency in Harry Reid and the federal government.
There have been numerous lies about this entire incident from the beginning (a tortoise...No, wait, fracking! No, wait...). It's all ridiculous and to expect the American public to know what the truth is when dealing with consummate liars like Reid is asking too much.
In the end, the reality may well be that though the deal with the Chinese fell through, there could be something else in the offing. Certainly, time will tell and we'll all learn, what, if anything, is planned by the federal government for the Solar Energy Zone in Nevada. In the meantime, the BLM should have waited until something was completely resolved in court before acting like the gestapo.

He stands his ground as he's been doing and is joined by others who have had about enough of the federal government's constant overreach into private lives. The saddest part of this whole mess is that we are only hearing what the lamestream media tells us and from their perspective, it's all about how much Bundy owes the government for grazing his cattle on "public lands." The funny thing about "public lands" is that if it is truly public, then how does the federal government decide that fees and permits need to be purchased and/or assessed to use it?
Isn't that kind of like the same federal government saying they support the 2nd Amendment, but then come along and make people apply for permits to purchase ammo, or force people to wear tracking bracelets, etc.? That's simply eradicating your constitutional rights via regulation.
However, the situation in the Cliven Bundy vs. Federal Government debacle may be about something else entirely. Could it be about a turtle deemed "endangered"? Could it be about "fracking," or could it be about something else altogether?
According to at least one other source, the center of the issue has to do with Harry Reid and plans for a Solar Plant that would go right where Bundy's cattle graze. One document produced by the BLM indicates that this area (where Bundy grazes his cattle) has been designated a "Solar Energy Zone." The document states, in part, "Non-Governmental Organizations have expressed concern that the regional mitigation strategy for the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone utilizes Gold Butte as the location for offsite mitigation for impacts from solar development, and that those restoration activities are not durable with the presence of trespass cattle."

Obviously, Bundy's cattle are in the way of the federal government's desire to build a solar plant in the same area where Bundy's cattle graze. I find it fascinating that in the original documentation regarding the "crime" of grazing cattle on "public land," there are numerous "claims" listed by the BLM of damage done to the public, as well as the land itself by the cattle. Yet, apparently, the solar plant and the area used for "mitigation for impacts from solar development" is not a problem at all, right? That's what we're to believe, which may be why the BLM took this information down from their website.
But how is it that the federal government can disallow Bundy use of the land - something his family has been doing for the past 140 years (and as he states, long before BLM came into being), yet this same government has no qualms about building a solar plant. Did they ask us? I mean, the land IS public, so shouldn't we be given the opportunity to say "yea" or "nay"?
By the way, where is President Obama in all of this? He likes inserting himself into situations, but maybe that's only when it involves a black person.
At any rate, aside from the solar plant issue, there appears to be a direct connect back to good ol' Harry Reid. Check this out. "[Reid] and his oldest son, Rory, are both involved in an effort by a Chinese energy giant, ENN Energy Group, to build a $5 billion solar farm and panel manufacturing plant in the southern Nevada desert...Reid has been one of the project’s most prominent advocates, helping recruit the company during a 2011 trip to China and applying his political muscle on behalf of the project in Nevada."
No way, what? Could it possibly mean what I think it means? Harry Reid and his son are involved in a deal that would make tons of money for them. But wait, isn't this land designated as "public land"? That's what the feds say. But here, Reid, working with his son, is trying to broker a deal that would bring a Chinese energy corporation to the same area, putting down $5 billion to put up a solar plant. Hey, do you think that might have anything to do with the fact that China carries most of our debt? Ah, I may be spitballing...
"Reid is accused of using the new BLM chief as a puppet to control Nevada land (already over 84% of which is owned by the federal government) and pay back special interests,” she added. 'BLM has proven that they’ve a situational concern for the desert tortoise as they’ve had no problem waiving their rules concerning wind or solar power development. Clearly these developments have vastly affected a tortoise habitat more than a century-old, quasi-homesteading grazing area'."
Amazing, isn't it? Developers couldn't care less what they destroy and BLM is out to protect THEIR interests (and Harry Reids along with his son). This is unconscionable, but it is the way the federal government works. Too many leftwingers want to get super-rich off of the backs of taxpayers.
Harry Reid seems to have no scruples, but he was sure able to lambaste Mitt Romney, wasn't he?
I am glad that the various militias are heading to Nevada to support Bundy. I don't think it will end well, but what's the other choice? To just allow the federal government to walk all over us? Haven't they done that enough already?
