National Security Adviser Susan Rice discussed the NSA scandal and Benghazi on CBS’s “60 Minutes” Sunday.
Most of the coverage of the interview with Lesley Stahl was surrounding Rice’s assertion that “untruthful” statements made by intelligence officials was not deliberate.
RealClearPolitics posted the exchange:
Lesley Stahl: Officials in the intelligence community have actually been untruthful both to the American public in hearings in Congress and to the FISA Court.
Susan Rice: There have been cases where they have inadvertently made false representations. And they themselves have discovered it and corrected it.
Andrea Drusch of Politico, however, focused on the comments Rice made surrounding her now-famous “talking points” claiming that the Benghazi terror attacks were prompted by a YouTube video. As reported at the Examiner, the origins of that quickly debunked narrative remain unknown.
Drusch wrote that Susan Rice stepped in to deliver the talking points because former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had a “painful” and “stressful” week. Rice, who was clearly defensive, said in part,
“I don’t have time to think about the false controversy,” Rice said. “In the midst of all of swirl about things like talking points, the administration has been working very, very hard across the globe to review our security of our embassies and our facilities. That’s what we ought to be focused on.”
There are still many unanswered questions about the Benghazi attack.
