In the words of the Boston Police Department’s recent Facebook update: “CAPTURED!!! The hunt is over. The search is done. The terror is over. And justice has won. Suspect in custody.”

DZHOKHAR TSARNAEV CAPTURED ALIVE, OTHERS ARRESTED

Initial reports from law enforcement officials speaking on condition of anonymity indicated Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was found hiding in a boat in Watertown, Massachusetts and was “covered in blood.” That initial witness did not know if Tsarnaev was dead or alive.

A short while later, the Boston Globe reported a state police helicopter had seen movement in a boat stored in the backyard of a private residence, sparking a standoff lasting over two hours before police were able to safely apprehend Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
A Globe photographer at the scene could hear police saying, “We know you’re in there. Come out on your own terms. Come out with your hands up.” Neighbors said that police officers had told them the suspect was covered in blood. But, according to the Globe, as of about 8:30 p.m. (about an hour and a half after the standoff had begun) another source said the suspect was still moving.
Daniel Cantor, a resident of 84 Franklin Street, told the Globe he heard “a number of gunshots” in rapid succession just after 7:10 p.m. He estimated it to be more than 30 gunshots but less than 50.“It was the kind that I did not want to be near,” Cantor said.

THREE OTHERS ARRESTED

Earlier this evening, New Bedford Police Department officers assisted federal agents in executing a search warrant for a home in New Bedford, about 10 minutes from the campus of the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, where Tsarnaev was a student.
New Bedford Police Lieutenant Robert Richard said the FBI took two men and one woman into custody at the home. “They appeared to be either fellow college students or fellow residents,” he said.
The other suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s brother, was killed early this morning in a gun battle with police. An MIT police officer was also killed Thursday night and an MBTA Transit Police officer was seriously injured during the manhunt for the Marathon bombers.
