The explosives used at the Boston Marathon were pressure cooker bombs. These were not particularly well built bombs. These bombs were first used in Afghanistan.
The pressure cookers were filled with BB pellets and ball bearings and placed in black backpacks.

This pressure cooker bomb was discovered at a Taliban bomb factory in 2010.
UPDATE: Isn’t it time for Democrats to ban all pressure cookers?

Worst. President. Ever.
After twenty hours Barack Obama finally decided that the bomb blasts yesterday in Boston were terrorist related.
Obama announced the revelation in his press conference this morning – his second press conference since the bombings.
What took the rest of us a matter of seconds to see took Barack Obama twenty hours to comprehend.
Congratulations.
