Chicago top cop blames city's high gun violence on... Wait for it... Sarah Palin!
AP |
In the city known more for being the corruption capital of the United States than "the windy city," Chicago's top cop has blamed Sarah Palin and the gun lobby for the city's shockingly high murder rate.
Palin has never lived in Chicago. And long before the former Alaska governor and former Republican vice presidential nominee was thrust onto the national stage in 2008, Chicago's murder rate was even higher than it is today.
Similarly, the gun lobby was not able to prevent Chicago from passing some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the nation, which eventually led to a landmark Supreme Court case that struck down some of the city's gun bans and other restrictions.
But even with the Supreme Court's ruling, Chicago was allowed to maintain much of its gun control restrictions. In spite of the restrictions, the city's murder rate continued to out-match the number of American military deaths in Afghanistan.
Thus, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy joined other cowardly law enforcement heads, such as Pima County, Ariz. Sheriff Clarence Dupnik in blaming conservatives, law-abiding gun owners, and Sarah Palin for the Tucson shooting that wounded former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
The modus operandi of leftwing politicians and unelected law enforcement officials who are subject to the approval of the progressives in the political establishment is to blame everything but the right thing when it comes to violence. Guns are an easy target. But in Chicago's case, the very corruption that infects and infests the entirety of the city government is at the root of much of the crime and violence that occurs in the city night after night.
