Dem. Rep. Elijah Cummings blames George Bush for current Secret Service scandal
While appearing on Sunday's edition of "Face the Nation," Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., blamed George Bush for the current scandal involving the Secret Service. He also claimed that many believe the Secret Service is failing to protect President Obama due to racism. He later took his theory to Twitter where he was soundly criticized.
When host Bob Schieffer tossed Cummings a racial softball, suggesting blacks are worried the agency would better protect a white president, the Maryland Democrat pounced. “Eighty-five percent of all African-Americans that come to me mention what you just said, and I don’t agree with it,” he said.
“We have information that this goes all the way back to the Bush administration, a lot of the problems that we’re talking about now," he said. "It’s just that they’re coming to light. So a lot of these things existed before President Obama.”
“The president’s people have told me that he feels very comfortable,” Cummings added. “He feels good about it, and most importantly the First Lady feels good about it.”
Cummings, however, found himself facing a much tougher audience when he took his theory to Twitter. Instead of adoration, his ideas sparked outrage.
"This is absolutely absurd! Blame Bush, Blame, Bush, Blame Bush," one person said. "When will Democrats take responsibility?" The answer to that was provided by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who said in August 2012 that Democrats will blame Bush "forever."
"Are you kidding me????@RepCummings @FaceTheNation The 'Bush' excuse AGAIN?" another person asked. "When WILL this administration OWN ANYTHING?" The answer to that, of course, is "never."
Of course, neither excuse is not unexpected. Since Obama was elected, liberals have blamed practically everything on George W. Bush, and they have essentially said everything is racist, even peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and the desire to protect America from Ebola. Judging from the response to Cummings' statement, it appears both excuses have worn thin with many Americans.
"You are racist, @RepCummings @FaceTheNation ~ have you ever thought your hatred of Bush is anything but racist?" one person asked Cummings. "Good GOD, man, he's GONE!!"
But as we have reported in the past, liberals have blamed Bush for everything under the sun. Moreover, it appears they are ready to -- as Albright said -- blame the man for everything "forever." In March, for example, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow blamed Bush for the situation in Ukraine. In June, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., blamed the former president for the current situation in Iraq, even though Bush warned what would happen if ground troops were taken out of the country.
Bush was also blamed when Obama bypassed Congress on the Bergdahl swap. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., also blamed Bush for the current situation on the southern border.
"They always need a fall guy," one Twitter critic said of liberals. "[T]hey can't face the truth."
