Russia cuts gas supplies to Poland

By |
Russia's natural gas supplies to Poland have dropped by 45 percent this week, Poland's state gas company told the BBC, a move many analysts saw as punishment for Poland sending gas to Ukraine.
The Russian state gas monopoly Gazprom denied in a statement in Russian that gas supplies had been reduced, the BBC said.
"Currently exactly the same volume of gas is being delivered to Poland as on previous days — 23 million cubic meters daily," the BBC translated Gazprom's statement as saying.
The news comes amid agreement by European Union governments to impose new sanctions on Russia starting Friday and highlights European dependence on Russian gas.
