U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann doesn’t understand why the Jewish community continues to support President Obama when he clearly has reneged on promises to “have Israel’s back.”
“Why in the world would Israel give up its land to terrorists” and cooperate with “al-Qaida elements in the Golan Heights,” when it would surely mean “an all-out, final war” that would destroy Israel? Bachmann said in an interview Monday with Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, according to a clip of the audio posted on Right Wing Watch’s website.
Invoking the biblical “end of days” theme, Bachmann said Obama was pressuring Israel to relinquish land and surrender.
“As believers in Jesus Christ who see the authority of scripture, I believe that the Lord and his strong right arm will have Israel’s back and will be her protector,” she said. “The question is, Will we as the United States cooperate in standing with Israel and blessing Israel, or will we join those nations that come against her?”
The Minnesota Republican said Obama has not come through on campaign promises of unwavering support for Israel, and wondered openly why the American Jewish community has not made him accountable.
“As recently as last week, 48 Jewish donors who are big contributors to the president wrote a letter to Democratic senators in the U.S. Senate to tell them not to advance sanctions against Iran. This is clearly against Israel’s best interest,” she told Perkins. “What has been shocking has been seeing and observing Jewish organizations, who it appears have made it their priority to support the political priority and political ambitions of the president over the best interests of Israel. They sold out Israel.”
