On Tuesday, EAG News reported that a Common Core-aligned lesson based on the book titled, “Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope,” places Barack Obama in a messianic light.
"Literally," Kyle Olson reported.
Olson said news of the lesson comes on the heels of another Common Core book that claimed white voters rejected Obama due to his race.
The book Olson revealed was written by Nikki Grimes while the lesson plan and accompanying video were authored by Sherece Bennett, and is being sold on TeachersPayTeachers.com.
"In one passage," Olson said, "a young Obama sees beggars and wonders, 'Will I ever be able to help people like these?'”
“Hope hung deep inside of him,” the book says in an apparent reference to Obama's 2008 campaign slogan.
“Before dawn each morning, Barry rose – his mother’s voice driving him from dream land. ‘Time for learning English grammar and the Golden Rule. Be honest, be kind, be fair,’ she taught him,” the book adds.
“One morning, he slipped on the name he’d been born with. The name of his father, Barack. For the first time in his life, he wore it proudly – like a coat of many colors,” the book says in a clear reference to the biblical story of Joseph.
Olson said that as far as liberals are concerned, there's no controversy in using religion in schools if it fits their worldview and advances their agenda.
"Leftists will use God and the Bible, in instances such as these, when it appropriately fits their propaganda purposes," he said.
The book also describes Obama's work as a community organizer in dramatic terms.
“The work was grueling, with stretches of failure, and puny patches of success. Door-to-door Barack went, early mornings, late nights, pleading and preaching, coaxing strangers to march together, to make life better for everyone.
“He worked as hard as a farmer, planting the words ‘Yes, we can!’ like seeds in spring.
“Impatient, Barack kept wondering if those seeds would ever sprout. He worried that the hope in him would fade away.”
Bennett's lesson calls for students to read Grimes' picture book of Obama and perform a number of activities, including, Olson added, making a collage of Obama:
Have students bring in magazines and photos of President Obama. Have students create a collage about Barack Obama based on the information from the text. The collage should represent pictures and words about Barack Obama
Olson said the book is more fitting for an authoritarian regime where leaders are deified.
"One can almost envision teachers in Cuba, Venezuela and Iran using similar books and lessons," he added. "Thankfully, that’s not the American way, which makes these learning materials completely unsuitable for our classrooms."
Nevertheless, this is quite possibly the version of history many children will learn, he said, given the large number of activist teachers in the country.
As we reported in February 2012, children have also been taught what amounts to praise songs dedicated to the worship of Barack Obama.
The web site MarkHumphrys.com has several videos on a page dedicated to the child worship of Obama.
"When children talk about politics, they usually talk nonsense," the page says. "And when children start worshipping some political leader, something deeply disturbing is going on."
