On Feb. 28, the Clinton Presidential Library was forced to release thousands of documents from the Clinton administration—many of which pertained to advice given to Hillary Clinton while she was first lady.

A particular set of documents described how Hillary’s aides have been attempting to improve Hillary’s media image since the 1990s, including her wardrobe, haircut and overall relatablity.

Critics argue Hillary’s biggest hurdle in the 2016 presidential election will be establishing the perception that she’s not the out-of-touch politician the media paints her as.

According to the documents, Hillary’s White House aides maximized her exposure in “normal” political settings, such as town hall meetings, and falsely noted her “aversion” to large national networks.

The papers also illustrate how aides tried to “humanize” Hillary because Americans failed to connect with her cold unemotional image.

In 1995, Clinton’s press secretary, Lisa Caputo, admitted she’d “specifically thought about ways to reach targeted audiences, [and] place Hillary in a positive light and make her feel comfortable.”

Caputo also told Clinton to “look for opportunities for humor” because “it’s important that people see more sides of you, and they often see you only in very stern situations.”

Clearly Hillary’s aides failed to “humanize” the cold unemotional side of her, as she continues to put off millions of voters. But will that be enough to stop her in 2016?
