White House Christmas Cards And What They Say About Obama

White House Christmas Cards And What They Say About Obama

As in past years, the White House did not send out a Christmas card. It sent out a holiday card, and the White House presumably in snow, that pops out. It features the dogs and the signatures of the members of the first family. There are some real messages here.
First, it appears that the White House has really “gone to the dogs.” They seem to be the only ones home. It causes one to speculate if  are they locked out in the snow while the first family is snuggled warmly inside? After all, Americans are not allowed in, unless one is privileged.
Second, the card is sterile, and devoid of any indication of anything, except cold snow. Well, I guess the admission of snow says something about the President’s global warming initiative.
Third, it is simply a building. The lights might be on, but no one is home. It has become imperious, aloof, and cold, much like the government. It is stone, and unresponsive to its environment, much like the President.
It is a pop-up. It opens at the whim of the select users, but otherwise remains closed. That seems so very much like the real White House, open only to a select few.  It is also the sort of thing  one would send to children, so naturally, Obama must think the American people are children.
Like the 2012 and 2010 card, it is outside the White House.  But at least in 2012, there was an adorable dog to give it some warmth. The dog seems happy, even if the residents do not, but it is dark inside those windows, isn’t it?

The 2011 card, of course, was just as the President was going on the campaign trail. It is, in some sense, more propaganda than the rest of the cards.  It was the one that Governor Palin took to task, and rightly so. Her comments at that time were a sign of things to come, things not quite evident.   The 2011 card is a symbol of everything Barack Obama was going to attack.  It wasn’t a Christmas Card, it was a declaration of war.
2011
The first thing that striking difference is that the picture is inside the White House. Yes, back in 2011, Americans were allowed inside the White House. That is no longer the case is it?   The 2013 card reminds us that Americans are outside the White House. The Christmas card this year reminds America that they are not allowed in the White House.
Notice, the drape is drawn back from the window and a little light shines through. There is some openness and transparency, although the Venetian blinds might distort things a bit. This is  reminiscent  of this president’s claim to be the most transparent, right? Well, that promise didn’t pan out too well….but it reminds one of broken promises, like transparency, keeping one’s insurance and doctor, and the list goes on and on.
There is silver and gold, red and green, all the traditional colors of Christmas. While there is no tree, the traditional colors are present. The silver and gold markets sure feel like they have been under attack! The red and the green, symbolic of Christmas have been under attack too. The 2013 card is white, gold, with a black signatures, and the colors have no particular relationship to the holiday.
There was no Christmas tree in the 2011, but there are presents and poinsettias. Presents! Yes, in 2011, we still had a wee bit of money to buy the materials to make presents. That is no longer the case. The economy has simply not rebounded, and any money acquired has to go to pay for medical insurance. Yes, Obama Care is for Christmas. How sad is that?
Poinsettias were my mom’s favorite flower, and when I was growing up, we always managed to have one bloom on her birthday, just before Christmas. My mom died in 2011, and so had she been on the Obama’s list, she would never have seen the card. She had a heart attack on the day Barack Obama announced he couldn’t guarantee social security checks.
There is trim around the fireplace, and of course a warm cheery fire. Of course, in 2011, the Obama Administration wasn’t making war on those of us who heat with wood. Alas, that now seems to be a right reserved for the White House, and something those in the north no longer are able to do. The 2013 card reminds Americans of Obama’s war on home heating, it is cold like our homes.
There is a light on in that room in 2011 too! I bet it is one of those light bulbs that are going to be banned. It reminds me of the summer of 2011, the last summer my Mom was alive. She was worried about the new bulbs being toxic, and  went on a frantic search for as many of the old bulbs as we could. She clearly had no notion that she would die a month later, and looking back, it seems a little absurd that she would be worried about light bulbs.   But the light bulb issue was a hot button for her, perhaps the only time I ever heard her speak ill of Barack Obama was on light bulbs and Rod Blagojevich  .
In the 2011, there are books on the shelves.  I guess now that the Obama Administration’s core curriculum is in schools, books will go by the way side too. The center piece of the Common Core initiative is the push for tablets and e-books and a move away from paper, pencil, cursive writing, and books.
The lit candles above the fireplace remind one of Hanukkah. Back in 2011, Barack Obama claimed he was the best friend that Israel ever had. Such is not the case today, if in fact it ever was really true.
The carpet and drapes in the 2011 card are  a neutral color. Such cannot be said in politics today. Race-baiting has been the hallmark of this administration, particularly since Barack Obama’s re-election, and he has perpetuated the war on race neutrality.
If the 2011 card is a symbol of what Barack Obama lacked before, it is just as much a reminder of the things Obama would diligently work to end.  The 2011 card was a declaration of war, a sign of the things he would attack in his next term.
As for 2010, Americans were not let in either, but by then, the Tea Party had emerged. We got past the gate, but never made it out of the driveway. 2011 was the only year the Obama’s let Americans in, and that was to gain re-election. In doing so, he revealed his agenda before our eyes.
The 2010 Christmas Card sent out by the White House.
