Special Operations Speaks Releases Benghazi
Select Committee Whip List; Targets Rep. Frank Wolf
Calls for EVERY member of Congress that Signed House Res. 36
to Sign the Stockman Discharge Petition (House Res. 306)
WASHINGTON –
It’s one thing to sign on as co-sponsor to House Res. 36 to establish a
Watergate-style special committee to investigate Benghazi. It’s another
to do what it takes to bring the measure to the floor. That’s why Special Operations Speaks, an organization led by Special Operations Veterans, released a list today of those who signed on as co-sponsors to the legislation to create the committee and whether they have signed the Discharge Petition to force House leadership to bring the measure to the floor.
Of the 171 Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives who have signed on as co-sponsors, only four – Louie Gohmert and Steve Stockman of Texas and Paul Broun of Georgia and Dana Rohrabacher of California – have signed the discharge petition.
It’s been over a year since the attack on Benghazi, and it’s time we get answers that bear some resemblance to the truth from the Obama administration on what happened that night and why Americans, for the first time in history, abandoned our soldiers – and an ambassador – when they were in the line of enemy fire.
Special Operations Speaks urges Americans to contact their representatives and/or every representative on the Whip List and ask why they haven’t signed the discharge petition. House Res. 36 won’t move unless those of us who care about truth and justice for the Benghazi Massacre to push their representative to stand up to GOP Leadership and sign the Discharge Petition.
We know – or at least can guess – who the Obama administration is protecting by obstructing the investigations now ongoing. What we don’t know is why John Boehner, Frank Wolf and the rest of the Republican leadership in the House won’t demand the facts.
Boehner says they have five committees working on it – five with disparate jurisdictions, limited ability to coordinate, without full subpoena power to obtain classified information and without the requisite clearances to read the classified information or solicit classified testimony.
"The Benghazi Select Committee Whip List will help separate the real leaders in the House on Benghazi from the pretenders hiding behind the fig leaf that has become House Res. 36" said Larry Ward Political Director of SOS. "The Speaker of the House has made it clear he will not move to form a Select Committee. The only path to the Select Committee now is through House Res. 306 the Stockman Discharge Petition."
Frank Wolf, who authored the measure to establish the Select Committee in the first place, has refused to sign the discharge petition.
During a heated exchange at the AIM Citizen Commission on Benghazi (Transcript), Larry Ward, the Political Director of SOS challenged Rep. Wolf on why he refuses to sign the Discharge Petition for his own resolution. Ward said during the exchange "I’m starting to feel like H. Res 36 is being used as a fig leaf so that members can essentially say 'I’m supporting Benghazi,' but if they don’t back it up by signing the Discharge Petition, they are essentially saying 'I believe in fighting the Select Committee for Benghazi, but not enough to buck the leadership.'"
"Frank Wolf refusing to sign the Stockman Discharge Petition for his own resolution is disappointing and demonstrates the chokehold Speaker John Boehner has around some members of Congress" Dick Brauer, Colonel, USAF (Ret.), Co-Founder of SOS said. "We must remind these members of Congress that signed onto Wolf's Select Committee Resolution that they John Boehner is NOT their boss, that they work for us." said Col Brauer (Ret.)
Special Operations Speaks (SOS) is a nationwide organization led by highly decorated Special Operations (Special Forces, Air Commandos, SEALs, Rangers, Marine Recon) veterans.
