House Democrat reintroduces bill ending presidential term limits

House Democrat reintroduces bill ending presidential term limits

Presidents are limited to serving two terms, according to the 22nd Amendment. But Rep. Jose Serrano (D-NY) introduced a House bill to repeal the amendment, apparently so Obama can run for a third term, Twitchy reported Saturday.
Serrano introduced the bill, known as H. J. Res. 15, on Friday, and the proposal has since been referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.
The resolution calls for an amendment to "repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President."
Twitchy said that it's "not likely" the Committee will move the bill to the full House since Serrano introduced the same bill last January. That bill died in committee, Twitchy said.
Mediaite reported that Serrano "proposed similar bills in 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007 during the presidency of George W. Bush. He also attempted the bill in 1997 and 1999, during Bill Clinton‘s administration. He tried again in 2009, in the second year of Obama’s first term."
None of his proposals made it to the floor of the House.
"It’s interesting," Twitchy said, "that so many who consider the First Amendment inviolable believe the Second Amendment is outdated, and the usefulness of the 22nd Amendment changes every few years."
Even if the bill somehow managed to get through the GOP-controlled House, chances are it would never be ratified by two-thirds of the states.
"Of course," added Robert Stacy McCain, "the Democrat Party’s contempt for the Constitution is so complete, they don’t care. They’d declare martial law, prohibit dissent as a 'crime against the people' and govern by decree if it weren’t for the fact that conservatives are armed to the teeth."
The 22nd Amendment, proposed in response to FDR's fourth term as president, was ratified by 41 states in 1951.
