Anti Gun Democrat in VA Lost 2 Weapons Owned by State, Law License Revoked, Held in Contempt Multiple Times

The VA state lawmaker, Joseph Morrissey, made headlines last week when he brandished an AK style rifle in the VA state legislature during an anti-gun speech (the anti-gun legislation went nowhere).
Morrissey made other headlines for his sketchy gun handling practices when he failed to demonstrate the weapon was safe and handled the weapon with his thumb on the trigger. Only after being reprimanded for unsafely handling the firearm by a Republican delegate did Morrissey remove his finger from the trigger and assure everyone the gun was unloaded.
Morrissey certainly got the publicity he probably wanted with the little stunt, however what he probably didn’t count on where the other facts that would come out about him because of it. The Daily Caller put Morrissey’s tarnished past on display with two different reports over a 3 day period.
According to a report in the Daily Caller, apparently this isn’t the first time Morrissey has made headline over his handling of semi automatic rifles.
Morrissey borrowed several semi automatic weapons for anti drug and violence lectures at schools from the state police forensic lab.
According to the Daily Caller report, Morrissey then proceeded to lose those weapons. He told a judge that must have “lost or misplaced” them.
According to the Daily Caller report, then something interesting happened. A 1994 arrest of a heroin dealer lead to the recovery a semi automatic Uzi style weapon which was traced back to being one of the guns which was supposed to have been in Morrissey’s possession.
If that was the only mark on Mr. Morrissey’s record that would probably be bad enough, however there is much more.
The Daily Caller also reports Mr. Morrissey’s legal troubles don’t end with losing a few state owned semi automatic weapons.
The Daily Caller says, Morrissey was found guilty in 2002 of committing a vicious 1999 assault, was sanctioned for legal misconduct while prosecuting a rape case, spent six months in jail for contempt of a federal court, and saw his law license revoked in 2003.
Morrissey allegedly paid a man $500,000 several years ago in a settlement related to an assault in 1999. According to a legal brief filed by the victim’s lawyers Morrissey said “I’m going to kill you. I’m going to beat your head in,” before beating the victim and “smash[ing] his head into the corner of a brick wall.”
According to the Daily Caller report, Morrissey’s license to practice law was revoked in 2003 following that incident.
Prior to that Morrissey’s license was suspended for 6 months following a rape trial Morrissey prosecuted during which he was found to have mishandled the case and misled the victim while giving the accused rapist a favorable plea bargain.
According to the Daily Caller report, Morrissey was also sanctioned earlier in his career in relation to a felony drunk driving case.
According to the Daily Caller report, Morrissey was also held for several contempt of court violations throughout his career and had to serve jail time for some of them along with several other sanctions.
According to the Daily Caller report, Morrissey’s law license was restored in 2011.
