African Travelers Are Now Coming To US With Ebola: No Quarantine Of Infected Countries

Quarantine and Isolation | Quarantine | CDC: doesn’t really exist.  I nearly died of the Hong Kong flu many years ago when people were allowed to fly in from there with no hesitation.  We now know that there is a major, gigantic ebola outbreak in central Africa and there is no restrictions on travel to or from and sick doctors are hauled out in isolation units and brought here and now anyone with the disease can come here, unimpeded.  This is insane!

When Homeland Security asked for better control over travel so that epidemics can be restricted, proposed rule changes in 2009:  USA rejects new quarantine regulations – FluTrackers.  This was first proposed in the Bush administration and then dropped after right wingers complained so Obama decided to try it again:

The Obama administration is quietly dusting off an effort to impose new federal quarantine regulations, which were vigorously resisted by civil liberties organizations and the airline industry when the rules were first proposed by the Bush administration nearly four years ago.

White House officials aren’t saying what their rules might ultimately require. But the previous administration proposed giving the federal government the authority to order a “provisional quarantine” of three business days — or up to six calendar days — for those suspected of having swine flu or other illnesses listed in a presidential executive order.

The Bush-era proposal would also have required airlines and cruise lines to store more information about domestic and international passengers, such as e-mail addresses, traveling companions and return flight information. The information would be subject to review by federal officials in a health emergency, though it would be voluntary for passengers to provide the data.

Opponents of the Bush administration’s efforts to enforce the new guidelines insist that they still are a mistake. “It’s not really going to help,” said Wendy Mariner, a professor of law and public health at Boston University. “The proposals to limit liberty represent a dangerous precedent to constitutional theory, particularly when there’s almost no evidence it will matter. … It wouldn’t surprise me if they try to sneak this past in August, when people are away.”

The following year in 2010:  New federal quarantine regulations scrapped.  So there is nothing, now.  In the past, people were tested for say, tuberculosis when traveling.  When I was in Europe in the 1960’s, I was tested for this before crossing from Germany to say, England.  Now, we have open borders and free trade so stuff flies madcap around the planet.

Ebola is in America: Dallas man is diagnosed with disease AFTER return from Africa in first case found on U.S. soil. Now in isolation but he MAY have infected others | Daily Mail Online

People boarding planes in the outbreak zone are checked for fever, but that does not guarantee that an infected person won’t get through.
The comments in Texan news media sites are full of fury and rage yet Texas was one place that did NOT want these regulations back when even Bush proposed these, much less the ‘hated’ Obama Democrats.  Now, too late, they want these regulations.  Here is WebMD’s assurances:  Ebola Virus: Symptoms, Treatment, and Prevention:

Could There Be an Outbreak in the U.S.?
Although movies and books describe major outbreaks of Ebola-like disease in the U.S., they’re just fiction. So far serious Ebola cases have only shown up in Central and West Africa.

The CDC says there’s no significant risk of Ebola in the United States. It has strong safety measures in place for people who have Ebola and are brought to the U.S. for treatment.

Ebola can spread from country to country when people travel. So it is possible for it to reach the U.S. if an infected person travels here. But there are ways to prevent people from coming to U.S. airports with the disease.

Then there is this statement that is totally insane:  First Ebola case in U.S. confirmed: Here’s why there’s (probably) no reason to panic – Salon.com

Dr. Amesh Adalja, a biosecurity specialist at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center told The Hill. “Ebola outbreaks are stopped in their tracks when basic public health measures are in place … and the United States would not be a hospitable environment for something that spreads exclusively through blood and body fluids.”

Who is this idiot, anyway?  AIDS!  Guess how that spread!  Duh! This is exactly what is wrong today.  People who, if they think for one minute, can realize some idea is stupid.  Salon is a stupid SF rag but SF happens to be one of the early AIDS hot spots so someone in that paper should have looked at this and gone on the attack, obviously this ‘expert’ is a fool or terminally stupid or most likely, a liar.  I bet Adalja comes from this part of Africa from looking at the name.

Obviously the ways of preventing people from coming here sick is…nothing.  Many of the doctors who bravely went to Africa to fight this terrible plague have either died or had to be flown out, sick.

From 27 of July last summer:  Fort Worth doctor with Ebola known for ‘compassionate heart’ | Dallas Morning News.  He had been in Africa for only about a month before falling ill.

Now we are sending troops over there and History is crystal clear in this matter: troops bring home plagues every time.  This is the worst thing we can do, send in troops.
