Russia Makes It Personal . . . See What Putin Just Did In Response To Obama’s Sanctions.

Is it safe for American to travel to Russia?

While analysts can debate whether America’s successive imposition of sanctions against Russian officials has had any real effect on the nation’s ability to continue its expansion into Ukraine, they have unquestionably gotten the attention of President Vladimir Putin.
In response to the first round of sanction, Russia publicly issued its own list of people – primarily elected politicians and White House officials – who were no longer welcome in the nation. Putin has also reportedly responded in kind to two subsequent sanctions; however, the contents of those lists remain private.
According to a report by the Russian Foreign Ministry in March, the country expanded its black list to include an undisclosed number of additional Americans.
“Of course, such actions cannot remain unanswered,” the organization stated. “Russia responded by undertaking similar measures.”
Putin himself issued a statement after the second round of sanctions, describing the “first package” as “an unlawful and hostile act against Russia” that “will definitely damage Russia-U.S. and Russia-EU relations.”
The more personal targets named in the second list of sanctions, however, was harder for Putin to categorize.
He concluded “it is not even clear exactly what they are all about, because they have no cause and effect link to what is happening now in Ukraine and in Russia.”
Reports indicate that, as his response, Putin targeted at least five of Obama’s top bundlers in the secret list of sanctions, in addition to a number of additional politicians. The Daily Beast reports that, although the identity of donors who made it on the Kremlin’s list are unknown, a common trait among them is support of gay rights.
Though Putin announced earlier this week that a third round of sanctions was in the works, no confirmation of that list has yet surfaced. Those who might be named in the secret list are not likely to find out unless they apply for a visa to travel to Russia.
