Anonymous insiders with access to the White House and close personal contacts have leaked word that White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, who replaced Robert Gibbs in 2011, is probably on his way out. He reportedly has said so himself and that it will be fairly soon.

One can imagine that the job hasn’t been a picnic of late, having to cover and make excuses for the inexcusable, but it has enabled him to gain the notoriety and nimbleness. He’s also enhanced his resume and contacts, none of which will hurt in the hunt for future employment.
Speculation grew recently when Carney plugged his wife, Claire Shipman’s book during a recent press briefing. That might be the kind of thing someone would do if they knew they were a short-timer.
No official verification has come from the White House, which issued a statement to the Daily Caller saying, “We routinely decline to comment on speculation about personnel matters.”
