Senator Maria Cantwell and Representative Tom Cole are the BuckeHeads of the Week

Red
Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and Representative Tom Cole (R-Okla.) submitted a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday requesting that the Redskins name be changed.
The beginning of the letter opens with the members of Congress criticizing Goodell when he defended the mascot name at a Super Bowl XLVIII press conference and called for immediate action:  “We are writing to express our disappointment with the National Football League’s stance on the name of the Washington football team. We also wish to register our objections to your pre-Super Bowl press conference on January 31, 2014, at which you defended the Washington team name as an “honor” to Native Americans. It is, in fact, an insult to Native Americans. We are calling on you and the National Football League to take a formal position in support of a name change.”
The letter went on to say:The National Football League can no longer ignore this and perpetuate the use of this name as anything but what it is: a racial slur. It is clear that you haven’t heard the leading voices of this country — and not just Indian Country. Virtually every major civil rights organization in America has spoken out in opposition to this name including the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League, the Rainbow Coalition and the League of United Latin American Citizens.”
Cantwell also said she would “definitely” look into ways including a look into the league’s tax-exempt status to press for a change, something other members of Congress have done by pushing a bill that would require the U.S. Patent and Trademarks Office to cancel any registration that used the term “redskin” in reference to Native Americans for commercial purposes. The same office rejected a trademark application from “Redskins Hog Rinds” on the basis of the word Redskins being offensive late last year. Once again congress is following the lead of Obama and using their power to force organization (or people) to do want they think is best.  (Congress knows better then us the people.)
According to ESPN.com’s John Keim, the Washington football team has received 7,000 letters of support for the mascot name and 200 of which have come from Native Americans.
Redskins’ spokesman Tony Wylie did offer a response from the team. “With all the important issues Congress has to deal with, such as a war in Afghanistan to deficits to health care, don’t they have more important issues to worry about than a football team’s name? And given the fact that the name of Oklahoma means “red people” in Choctaw, this request is a little ironic,” Wylie wrote in an email to the Times.
Can Congress focus on their job.  Unemployment is high, health care cost are going through the roof, economy is not improving, the middle class Americas are hurting and These two Congressman, Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and Representative Tom Cole (R-Okla.), are writing love letters to a football team.  This why congress approve rating is so low. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and Representative Tom Cole (R-Okla.) are both the BuckeHeads of the Week.
