Leader Cantor Applauds House-Adopted Stop Government Abuse Bills

Posted by Nick Marcelli on
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor today released the following statement on a set of six bills that were adopted by the House as part of Stop Government Abuse Week:
"We in the House remain committed to fulfilling our Constitutional duty of holding the Obama Administration accountable for its abuse of power through executive overreach. Throughout the week, we will be voting on legislation that will help stop government abuse, protect working middle class families and restore the American people's trust in government. Tonight we have adopted six bills to that end. I thank Chief Deputy Whip Roskam, Chairman Issa, Chairman Goodlatte, and Congressman Lankford for their work on these important bills to help stop government abuse."
H.R. 1211 - FOIA Oversight and Implementation Act of 2014
"Transparency in government is a critical part of restoring trust and the House will continue to work to make government more transparent and accessible to all Americans. By expanding the FOIA process online, the FOIA Oversight and Implementation Act creates greater transparency and continues our open government efforts in the House."
H.R. 1232 - The Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act
"As we have seen the horrors of an ObamaCare website that is causing security concerns and hardships for Americans across our country, the Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act is a needed step in the right direction toward holding the government accountable for wasted tax dollars on unverified technology investments."
H.R. 1423 - Taxpayers Right-to-Know Act
"Hardworking, middle class Americans remain concerned with a growing government wasting more of their tax dollars. We in the House believe it is important that the American people know how their hard-earned tax dollars are being spent, and we will continue our commitment to a transparent government and reducing wasteful spending."
H.R. 2530 - Taxpayer Transparency and Efficient Audit Act
"The IRS has put into serious question the American people's trust in our government. The House is committed to conducting oversight to rebuild that trust and the Taxpayer Transparency and Efficient Audit Act is one step in that direction."
H.R. 2531 - Protecting Taxpayers from Intrusive IRS Requests Act
"The egregious abuses of trust at the IRS beg the need for more transparency and oversight and the House will continue to act to ensure that oversight on the American people’s behalf. The IRS cannot be trusted, nor do they have sufficient reason to possess, an individual’s religious, political, or social beliefs."
H.R. 1123 - Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless Competition Act
"The Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless Competition Act aims to remove the federal government as an obstacle to consumer choice, encourage competition, and protect the American people from harmful federal over-reach. Consumers shouldn’t have to buy a new phone just because they change carriers."
