Quds Force Commander: Iran to Support Syria to The End
TEHRAN
(FNA)- Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds
Force General Qassem Soleimani underlined that Iran will remain beside
the Syrian nation until it gains victory against aggressors.
"We will support Syria to the end," Soleimani was quoted as saying by a member of Iran's Assembly of Experts on Wednesday.
"Soleimani, who was addressing an Experts Assembly meeting, further
referred to the different means and methods applied by the US for
toppling President Bashar al-Assad's government, including political
pressures and dispatch of Al-Qaeda forces to Syria, and expressed the
confidence that Washington's latest excuse for attacking Syria (i.e. the
alleged use of chemical weapons by the Damascus government) would fail
to produce any result for Washington," the Experts Assembly member told
FNA.
According to the source, General Soleimani said that 95% of those
rebels fighting in Syria are foreigners and added that the remaining
rebels are the Syrian army defectors and the Salafi Syrians.
"He also pointed to certain regional states' fear of Iran's growing
influence in the region, and said for instance Qatar has spent $12bln in
the form of aids to the rebel groups in Syria in a bid to reverse the
current trend which is moving in the interest of the Syrian government,
but it has failed and Iran still enjoys a good position among the
regional countries," the Experts Assembly member said.
In a relevant development on Wednesday, the Iranian parliamentarians
in a statement supported the resistance front in Syria, and voiced their
preparedness to fight alongside the Syrian nation against any
aggressor.
"We as the representatives of (the Iranian) people in the Islamic
Consultative Assembly (parliament) voice our support for the resistance
front in Syria and declare in a straightforward manner that we support
the positions of the Supreme Leader of the Muslim world and hope of the
oppressed nations (i.e. Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) by all means, and
if the Islamic Republic decides, we will be ready to sacrifice our lives
beside our Syrian brothers against the (front)line of infidels and
oppressors," the statement signed by 170 Iranian lawmakers said.
The Iranian legislators warned the US and the Zionist regime against
attacking Syria, and said any invasion of the country will herald the
collapse of the arrogant powers' tyrannical and cruel system.
The US and other western countries have adopted the rhetoric of war
against Syria over allegations that the Syrian government was behind a
recent chemical attack near Damascus.
The call for military strike intensified after the militants operating
inside Syria and the foreign-backed Syrian opposition claimed on August
21 that hundreds had been killed in a government chemical attack on
militant strongholds in the Damascus suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and
Jobar. The Syrian government has strongly denied the claim, accusing the
militants of the attack.
