Retired Lt. Gen. William G. “Jerry” Boykin openly opposes President Obama’s nomination of Samantha Power as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, saying her “track record” shows that she would like to “cede our sovereignty.”
“Samantha Power’s attitude that we need to cede our sovereignty to the United Nations is very misguided and very dangerous as far as I’m concerned,” Boykin said at the National Press Club on Wednesday, according to CNS News.
Power is a longtime Obama confidante and Harvard University professor who is married to Obama’s former regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein.
Boykin joins nearly 50 former military leaders and national security officials who urged the Senate on Wednesday, in a letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid (D – NV), to reject the controversial nomination, as reported by the Washington Free Beacon.
The officials wrote: “In light of her low regard for our country, her animus towards one of our most important allies, Israel, and her affinity for those who would diminish our sovereignty and strengthen our adversaries, we consider her to be a wholly unacceptable choice for this sensitive post and urge you to reject this nomination.”
Former Rep. Allen West from Florida  agreed that Power has “shown a disdain for American power,” and described Power as a “loyal Obama acolyte” who has “no diplomatic capabilities,” Free Beacon added.
“Miss Power is an über-left militant progressive whose previous statements against America and Israel should cause us concerns,” West said.
Boykin added that “she would like to very much convince us that we should be ashamed of America,” and said people should investigate what Power has said and written in the past, CNS News noted.
