Singer James Taylor: Americans need to 'sacrifice' freedom to protect society
"But," he added, "I think the majority of us feel strongly — even the majority of gun owners feel strongly — that we need to make some sacrifice[s] to our freedoms, if that’s the way to put it. We need to make some sacrifices to what we might want to have, in order to safeguard our children.”
Taylor went on to say that while he believed the men who wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights wanted Americans to be armed, he felt those same men would want limits on the right to keep and bear arms.
Expressing his love for President Obama, Taylor admitted he didn't know the details of the recently-signed executive orders, The Blaze said.
“I love this president for so many reasons,” Taylor said, expressing a desire to see more politicians like him.
“I think he’s a true public servant. An amazingly capable and compassionate and intelligent man and a very level-headed citizen,” he added.
Taylor went on to say that he trusts Obama to make important decisions for Americans.
"That’s what it means to have faith in a leader,” he said.
Taylor's comment, however, runs counter to an opinion once expressed by Benjamin Franklin, one of those who helped craft our founding documents.
“Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one,” he said.
In 2011, Taylor received a National Medal of Arts, the highest award given to artists and arts patrons by the United States Government, the Daily Caller said.
The Blaze said that Taylor, who performed for Obama's first inaugural in 2009, also performed at the inauguration on Monday.
