A White House official released a statement quickly after Obama finished his short speech clarifying that the attack in Boston did, indeed, appear to be “an act of terror.”
“Any event with multiple explosive devices — as this appears to be — is clearly an act of terror, and will be approached as an act of terror,” the official said, according to Politico.
Still, the official hedged.
“We don’t yet know who carried out this attack, and a thorough investigation will have to determine whether it was planned and carried out by a terrorist group, foreign or domestic.”
On Fox News Monday evening, reporter Ed Henry said that Obama purposely did not use the word “terror” because “he didn’t want to get ahead of the facts.”
