Public Opinion on U.S. Negotiations with the Muslim Brotherhood
"The Muslim Brotherhood was established in Egypt in the 1920s and is
one of the oldest and largest Islamist groups. It serves as the largest
political opposition in many Arab states. The Brotherhood’s stated goal
is to instill the Koran, and what is referred to as 'Sharia' law, as the
governing body for the family, community and government law. While the
Brotherhood claims to be committed against violence, a number of
well-known terrorists are graduates of this organization, including al
Qaeda’s number two leader, Egyptian doctor Ayman al-Zawahiri. Further, a
terror analyst who has studied this group says 'The Muslim Brotherhood
is the mother ship for the jihadi ideologies and thinking. And therefore
one can say today’s al Qaeda, and today many other jihadists, are off
shoots of the Muslim Brotherhood.'
After reading this description of the Muslim Brotherhood, do you
think the United States should agree to deal with the Muslim Brotherhood
when negotiating with other countries where they have a strong
political presence?"
