On Saturday, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi proposed the formation of a NATO-like military organization by the Islamic states to defend the interests of the Muslims across the world.
"The organization will be tasked with defending Muslims around the world and its most important agenda will be the Palestinian issue," Vahidi said in Tehran.
Speaking on Sunday, member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Esmayeel Kosari said Iran's proposal "will turn Muslim nations into a single force".
He added that various groups of countries have forged different alliances with each other such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Central Treaty Organization (CENTO) and the Central-Eastern European Treaty Organization (CEETO).
Kosari further said the US and Israel are trying to scare Muslim countries of accepting Tehran's proposal, and said, "The Iranophobia is promoted by the global arrogance and Zionists and now that establishing a military organization consisting of Muslim countries has been proposed, they are trying to scare Muslim leaders of forming an alliance with Iran."
